Immersive Mode is an optional setting that sets the default voice language to a mix of Japanese and Portuguese in Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows). Read on to learn more about Immersive Mode and find out whether you should turn it on or off.

| Immersive Mode ON | All speech in the game will either be Japanese or Portuguese depending on the speaker. You'll have to enable subtitles in your own language to understand what's being said. For example, any of the foreign priests you encounter will speak in Portuguese, while the locals (including Yasuke) will speak in Japanese. |

When you first start the game, you'll have the option to turn on Immersive Mode. Unlike the Canon Mode choice, you'll still be able to change over to Immersive Mode even if you choose to play with it off in the New Game Setup screen.
Turning Immersive Mode on will make some of the opening sequences make sense, especially if you're playing with Canon Mode turned off.
For example, the very first choice Yasuke makes (telling Nobunaga if he understands Japanese or not) will not make sense if Immersive Mode is off since both of them will have already spoken in the same language.
Players who don't want to read subtitles can turn Immersive Mode off since it won't really affect the story in any way. As its name suggests, the entire purpose of the option is immersion and if that isn't your cup of tea, then you won't miss out by turning it off.
However, do note that if you do decide to change your mind later on, you'll still be able to turn Immersive Mode on. To do so, navigate to System > Options > Audio > Voice Language and change it from there.
