Yes, Helping NPCs Unlocks Rewards

Helping NPCs would give you different kinds of rewards such as World Rumor, which reveals Points of interest, Vendors, Chests to your map.

Another reward is the Scout Intel, which reveals Mission data without having to spend scouts to Scout the general location of the mission objective.
