Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows)

Should You Turn Guided Exploration On or Off?

Guided Exploration

Guided Exploration mode makes it easier for players to find quest objectives in Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows). Read on to learn more about Guided Exploration mode differences and whether you should turn it on.

Guided Exploration Differences

Guided Exploration ON Quest objectives will be given in the form of clues that direct you to a specific portion of the world map. Objective markers will not appear automatically when this mode it turned on.

Requires you to use Scouts in order to reveal the general location of your target.
Guided Exploration OFF Quest objectives are pinned in your map directly, similar to modern RPGs.

Turning on Guided Exploration causes you to miss out on certain achievements.

Guided Exploration is one of the settings you will need to set when you first start a new game of AC Shadows. Turning it off or on directly affects the difficulty of the game when it comes to quest navigation. If turned on, you're likely to miss out on certain trophies like Scouting Mission which requires you to use scouts.

Should You Turn Guided Exploration On or Off?

Turn it Off to Make Missions More Challenging

Players who want to actually track down their targets like an assassin would can turn guided exploration off since it adds a new layer of immersion to the game.

With how big the actual map of AC Shadows is, having this mode off means you're required to actually explore the general location of your target, revealing the fog of war and speaking to NPCs in order to find your quest objective.

Turn it On if You Only Want to Play the Story

Given how large the map is, exploration can and will be time consuming. If you want to relax and move from quest marker to quest marker, then turning Guided Exploration on will be the way to go.

One of the best examples in favor of guided exploration is the side quest Tea Bowls for Rikyu. Having the mode off means you have to visit all merchants on the map just to find the 6 that sell the required tea bowls for the quest. Turning the mode on shows you the exact locations of the merchants you need to visit.

Locks You Out of Using Scouts to Find Objectives

Scouting Mission
Gather information using a scout.
► How to Get More Scouts

The feature to use Scouts in order to reveal info about your quest objective will be disabled if Guided Exploration is on. Naturally, this will lock you out of achievements like Scouting Mission until you disable the feature.
