Zipline Pylons and Zipline Towers can both be unlocked via the AIC Plan System.
Zipline Pylons can be unlocked once you reach Basic AIC II, which is unlocked using the Basic Expansion Core that you receive by completing the Main Quest Paving the Way. Research Field Mobility I to unlock Zipline Pylons.
Zipline Towers, on the other hand, are unlocked after reaching Basic AIC III with the Basic Expansion Core from the quest Mystery in the Building. Research Field Mobility II to unlock Zipline Pylons.

Zipline Pylons can be crafted using Amethyst Parts, while Zipline Towers are crafted from Cryston Parts. As Zipline Towers require more steps to make compared to Pylons, it is recommended that players stick to using Zipline Pylons, and only create Zipline Towers once they have an excess of Cryston Parts.

The first step to setting up a Zipline is locating a suitable zipline location. Since you can only place a limited amount of ziplines in each area, we recommend building ziplines that reach rare materials, as these are often hard to reach through normal means.
It is also a good idea if one of your Ziplines is near a TP Point, as this allows you to quickly get to your destination.

Once you have found a place to build your Zipline, you must then provide power to both ends of the zipline. This can be done using either an Electric Pylon, or the Relay Tower if you have unlocked the Relay Distribution node in the AIC Plan.

Once the power sources are ready, you can now build your Ziplines. Make sure to build your Zipline (either the Pylon or the Tower) within the power source's range.

Once your Ziplines are built, you must then test them to make sure that they work. Do this by approaching either end of the Zipline and latching to it. Once you are latched to the Zipline, you must then aim at the other end of the Zipline.
If you can see a distance marker on the other Zipline, it is properly built and can now be used. If, instead, the marker is red*, or you do not clearly see the other Zipline, then it will not work and must be rebuilt.

The biggest difference between the Zipline Pylon and Zipline Tower is that the Zipline Pylon has a shorter range. Based on our testing, the range of the Pylon is roughly 80 meters, while the Tower's range is roughly 110 meters.
It is important to note that although the Pylon has a shorter range, you can travel to a Pylon from a Tower as long as the Tower is within the Pylon's range. If the Tower is outside of the Pylon's range, you cannot travel to the Pylon.
An additional feature that Zipline Towers have is the ability to chain multiple Towers together to create a singular path. This allows you to travel over long distances without having to aim at the next tower like you would when on a Zipline Pylon.
