Essences in Arknights: Endfield are stat-boosting items that can be equipped to weapons. Each weapon can hold up to one Essence at a time.
An Essence comes with up to three random stats that it can provide to the weapon, with the amount of bonus stat levels given determined by Essence rarity.

To equip an Essence to a weapon, go to the Character menu and switch into the Weapons category. The equipped Essence can be found beside the current weapon's Potential level.

Keep in mind that the Essence's bonuses are only provided when a stat on the Essence matches a stat on the Weapon.
Each weapon has a base Attack value, and up to three additional stats. Essences will only provide their stat levels if they match one or more of the weapon's additional stats, and will not provide bonuses to non-matching stats.

Make sure to check the added levels that the Essence gives. They will give additional bonuses to your character's weapon if they fill the appropriate slot.
This is why matching the Essence Stats to the Weapons' passive is crucial; any additional boost to your character's strength will mean better efficiency in combat!
| Rank | Bonus Stat Levels |
|---|---|
| 2 (Stable Essence) | 1~2 |
| 3 (Clean Essence) | 1~3 |
Above is a list of the amount of extra stat levels provided by Essences of each rarity. Higher rarity Essences provide more bonus levels compared to their lower-rarity counterparts.
Note that Essences can be refined in the Essence menu to increase their potency, allowing them to potentially provide more stats when upgraded.

The main way to get Essences is to clear Energy Alluviums, which are small combat events scattered across Talos-II. These do not cost Sanity, and instead respawn after a while, making them fairly simple to farm.
When you get to a higher Authority Level and make it deep into your progress in the game, at some point, you will be able to get higher rarity Essences directly from Energy Alluviums.

A second version of Essence Alluvium can be accessed once players reach a higher Authority Level of at least Level 40. Players should be able to spend Sanity here to obtain higher-rarity Essences.

Any enemy defeated in the overworld also has a random chance of dropping an Essence. Do note that the success rate for obtaining Essences this way is lower than that of farming Energy Alluviums.
This is your main way of getting Essence during the early game stage of Arknights: Endfield. You will have to be lucky that they drop from an enemy you defeated in combat.
You can also combine three Essences of the same rank into an Essence of the next rarity. This is great for using up unwanted Essences, as you can recycle them into potentially more powerful versions.
