Not killing Scar-Tail allows him to give you treasure in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered. See what happens if you kill Scar-Tail and if you spare him for The Renegade Shadowscale quest.

Choice Result
Kill Scar-Tail This choice follows Teinaava's instructions and allows you to take Scar-Tail's heart.
Spare Scar-Tail Scar-Tail will tell you where his treasure is, and you can give the heart of the Argonian corpse nearby to Teinaava.

Teinaava will ask you to kill Scar-Tail in the quest The Renegade Shadowscale, since he cannot do the deed himself. You have the option to either kill Scar-Tail and present his heart to Teinaava or leave Scar-Tail alive and give Teinaava the heart of another Argonian.

Should You Kill Scar-Tail?

Spare Scar-Tail for His Treasure

Agreeing to not kill Scar-Tail will make him tell you where he hid his treasure. You can then pick up the Argonian Heart from the nearby corpse to present to Teinaava.

Teinaava will not know the difference between this heart and Scar-Tail's, so he will reward you with the Boots of Bloody Bounding regardless.

You Can Kill Scar-Tail and Get the Treasure

Hollowed-Out Rock

If you want to do exactly what Teinaava asked of you, you have the option to still kill Scar-Tail after he tells you where his treasure is. If you know where to look in his camp, you can also get his treasure even if you never talk to him.

You can get Scar-Tail's treasure from the Hollowed-Out Rock near his tent whether or not you talk to him. This should contain some gold.
