The Rogue build blends agile combat prowess with a charming and illusive personality, able to charm or cut down enemies as needed. Focus on Light Armor and Blade for your main combat skills, as well as Acrobatics for the ability to dodge.
Illusion offers versatile utility both in and out of combat. For combat, you have Illusion Spells for invisibility, paralyzing enemies, or swaying foes to your side.
Outside battle, you can use Illusion to boost NPC disposition, turning those around you into allies and securing better deals with merchants, which is especially good paired with the Mercantile skill.
| Primary | Shortsword |
|---|---|
| Secondary | Illusion Spells |
Shortswords offer a good balance of swiftness and damage, relying on quick strikes and footwork to hit and not get hit. These scale with your Agility, which you should prioritize over Strength as Agility boosts stamina regeneration, letting you hit and dodge more effectively in combat.
Then, use Illusion Spells to gain the upper hand in fights, especially against multiple enemies. Invisibility spells allow for sneak attacks, while Frenzy can sow chaos in enemy ranks. Spells like Dominating Touch can even make an enemy fight for you directly.

Argonian

Any |
Argonians make a strong choice for the Illusionist Rogue build, thanks to their natural bonuses in Athletics, Blade, and Illusion. Despite their lower Personality stat, certain Illusion Spells can effectively nullify this weakness.
Both Origins have benefits that lean into a certain playstyle. Arnesia is better for melee-focused rogues, offering bonuses to Speed and Agility. Thornmarsh suits those leaning towards Illusion Spells, with boosts to Intelligence and Willpower.
| Best Birthsign | Description |
|---|---|
The Thief |
Those born under the sign of The Thief benefit from increased Agility, Speed and Luck. ・ Fortify Agility: Increases Agility by 10 points. ・ Fortify Luck: Increases Luck by 10 points. ・ Fortify Speed: Increases Speed by 10 points. |
The Thief is the most optimal birthsign for Rogue builds. The bonus Agility directly boosts Shortsword damage, while also improving stamina management. Luck provides a subtle all-around Skill boost, which is especially valuable since it takes four Virtue points to raise it by one.
The added Speed enhances the Rogue's swiftness even more, making it easier to dodge and stay one step ahead of your enemies as you run around the battlefield.
