Scouts are skilled skirmishers, excelling in swift combat using the Blade and defense with Light Armor. Long journeys and scouting on foot naturally improve Athletics and Acrobatics, helping you dodge danger and traverse terrains and battlefields with ease.
To keep your gear in top condition, improve the Armorer skill for repairs, ensuring your equipment is in good shape for the challenges ahead.
In addition to physical fitness, Scouts are proficient in Alchemy and are well-versed in the wilderness and its ingredients. Find ingredients to craft powerful potions for yourself and potent poisons for your foes.
| Primary | Shortsword + Light Shield |
|---|---|
| Alternative | Bow |
The Scout build fights with a Shortsword and Light Shield, preferring to dodge and move around most attacks rather than absorbing blows. The Agility attribute scales with Shortswords, and increasing it also adds to your stamina pool and regeneration.
Bows are a great backup weapon that also scales with Agility, allowing you to open up fights with arrows, especially poisoned ones. Keep your potions at the ready as well if you need extra resistances or heals.

Khajiit
|
Pellitine |
Khajiits are great for Scout builds, for their natural proficiency in Acrobatics, Athletics, Blade, and Light Armor. They also have a +10 Agility attribute bonus, perfect for using Shortswords and Bows, and your fatigue management.
You also get some useful abilities. Eye of Fear makes the targeted enemy flee, good for creating distance or dealing damage while they run. Eye of Night grants 30s of night vision for scouting dark areas.
The Pellitine origin is slightly better since you get +10 Endurance at the cost of -10 Strength. Strength is not the highest priority, so the extra HP and health regeneration can be more useful.
Good alternative races to pick for Scouts are:
| Best Birthsign | Description |
|---|---|
The Thief |
Those born under the sign of The Thief benefit from increased Agility, Speed and Luck. ・ Fortify Agility: Increases Agility by 10 points. ・ Fortify Luck: Increases Luck by 10 points. ・ Fortify Speed: Increases Speed by 10 points. |
The Thief birthsign is optimal for Scout builds. The bonus Agility directly boosts Shortsword and Bow damage, while also improving stamina management. Luck provides a subtle all-around Skill boost, which is especially valuable since it takes four Virtue points to raise it by one.
The added Speed significantly boosts the Scout's movement, improving their ability to evade enemies and rapidly maneuver across the battlefield.
