The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - Best Birthsigns

This is a tier list of the best Birthsigns for each build archetype in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Read on to see the best Birthsigns for melee, stealth, and magic builds, and find out how all Birthsigns rank based on your chosen playstyle.

Melee Stealth Magic

Best Melee Build Birthsigns

Melee Birthsign Tier List
S-Tier Warrior Atronach Lord
A-Tier Steed Thief -
B-Tier Lady Tower Ritual
C-Tier Lover Shadow Mage
Apprentice Serpent -

The Warrior is the best overall birthsign for melee-focused builds thanks to the attribute bonuses that it gives. Besides that, the Atronach is also amazing because melee builds generally don't use Magicka, and the 50% chance to absorb spells is always useful, while the Lord has generally good defensive buffs.

As for alternative options, the Steed's extra movement speed is always nice to have, while the Thief has useful attribute bonuses for melee fighters, even if the birthsign is better suited for a Stealth build.

Best Stealth Build Birthsigns

Stealth Birthsign Tier List
S-Tier Thief Shadow Steed
A-Tier Mage Atronach Lover
B-Tier Warrior Apprentice Tower
Lord Lady -
C-Tier Ritual Serpent -

The Thief is the best stealth birthsign thanks to its attribute bonuses being amazing for the playstyle. Besides that, the Shadow is also great thanks to the free invisibility spell that you get, and the Steed is a good alternative since its extra movement speed helps you escape or out-maneuver your enemies.

Alternatively, the Mage and Atronach are nice if you're also using spells that help with stealthing around, and the Lover's ability to paralyze allows you to get creative with whatever stealthy shenanigans you get up to.

Best Magic Build Birthsigns

Magic Birthsign Tier List
S-Tier Mage Apprentice Atronach
A-Tier Lady Steed -
B-Tier Thief Shadow Ritual
Tower Lord Lover
C-Tier Warrior Serpent -

The Mage is the best magic birthsign thanks to the extra Magicka that it gives. Besides that, the Apprentice and Atronach give larger Magicka bonuses, but they also make you weak to magic and prevent Magicka regeneration respectively.

Alternatively, the Lady gives useful Willpower and Endurance bonuses, while the Steed has the always useful bonus to movement speed.

Can You Change Birthsigns?

Cannot Change After Leaving Tutorial

Last Chance to Edit Birthsign
After selecting your Birthsign, you'll only have one more chance to change it right before exiting the tutorial area of the sewers. Once you've opened the gate and entered the vast lands of Cyrodiil, you will no longer be able to change your character's birthsign.

Hey, thanks for the comment! The explanation in the "Best Magic Build Birthsigns" section was referring to the Apprentice and Atronach birthsigns in order, with the drawbacks applying respectively: the Apprentice makes you weak to magic, while the Atronach prevents Magicka regeneration.

You need to recheck what the Atronach birthsign does. It doesn’t make you weak to magic, Stops magicka regen, Gives you 50% spell absorption and 150 more magicka. Nothing about magic weakness.
