Use the Soul Trap Spell to Transfer Creature Souls Into Soul Gems

Greater Soul Trap Journeyman Captures a dying creature's soul, lasts 30 seconds
Superior Soul Trap Expert Captures dying creatures’ souls in a 10-foot radius, lasts 40 seconds
Legendary Soul Trap Master Captures dying creatures' souls in a 20 foot radius, lasts 1 minute

Soul Trap is a Mysticism spell that allows you to transfer creatures' souls into the Soul Gem. You can use this spell to fill up your Soul Gem with the souls of fallen creatures from battle.

Additionally, the effect of the Soul Trap spell will depend on the rank of the Mysticism level of your character. The higher the rank, the longer the duration of the spell lasts.

You can acquire the Soul Trap spell by buying it from the Mages Guild in Chorrol. From there, interact with Alberic Little and click the Purchasing Spells icon to procure the spell from him.

Soul Gems are used to enchant items such as weapons and armor with souls entrapped inside the Soul Gem.

Performing enchantments will require you to visit the Arcane University in Cyrodill. The player must also have the materials needed for the enchantment, such as the Soul Gem, the item for enchantment, and gold.

Do note that the size of the Soul Gem will determine the amount of magical power that can be bounded into your enchanted items. The bigger the Soul Gem, the more powerful enchantments it can sustain.

There are different types of Soul Gems in the game that vary in size and enchantment points they can store. Listed above the table are the various sizes and their respective enchantment points.

Recharge Enchanted Weapons

Use Soul Gems to Recharge Enchanted Weapons

Soul Gems can also be used to recharge enchanted weapons and staves, allowing you to increase their uses. To recharge a weapon, select the Soul Gem you want to use from your inventory, then select the weapon you want to use it on.

The amount of charge a Soul Gem can provide corresponds to the soul inside it and is the same as their enchantment points. Petty souls recharge weapons by 150, while Grand souls recharge weapons by 1600.

Soul Gems can be found by looting various areas in the game, so make sure to explore newly discovered areas and open up unclaimed treasure chests to acquire these Soul Gems.
