Restoration

Alteration, Destruction, Conjuration, and Restoration are the skills that will make the most sense as they unlock all spells necessary for building a typical Mage.

Destruction unlocks offensive spells for the mage to use during combat. Meanwhile, Conjuration, Alteration, and Restoration unlocks utility spells that range from summoning minions to generating shields.

Best Weapon Types for Mage

Primary Dagger
Alternative Shortsword

The Dagger is the safest and more suitable weapon for the mage. It's light weight, minimizing the penalty to the mage's mobility, and easy to find. Even if its damage isn't that high, it won't matter later on since the mage will mostly rely on casting spells when fighting enemies.

The Shortsword can be a good alternative that essentially works the same as the dagger, but is generally heavier.

The Breton race is perfect for the mage class since they have high Intelligence, Willpower, and Magicka Bonus attributes, which are all in line with the mage.

Choosing Systres gives +10 points to Strength compared to High Rock, improving the mage's durability during combat.
