The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - How to Increase Magicka

There are multiple ways to increase your Magicka both permanently and temporarily in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered. Read on to see all the ways you can increase your Magicka here.

Ways to Increase Magicka

Increase Intelligence When Leveling Up

The most reliable way to consistently increase your Magicka is by raising your Intelligence when leveling up. Each point of Intelligence adds 2 points of Magicka, meaning that at 100 Intelligence, you'll gain +200 Magicka from the attribute alone.

Leveling System Explained: How to Level Up

Play as a High Elf or Breton

High Elf and Breton Magicka Bonuses

The High Elf and Breton races in character creation have an inherent Magicka bonus as part of their racial powers. High Elves have a huge +100 Magicka bonus, while Bretons have a respectable +50 Magicka Bonus.

Character Creation Guide

Select a Magicka Boosting Birthsign

Birthsign Effects
The MageMage Fortify Magicka: Increases Magicka by 50 points.
The ApprenticeApprentice Fortify Magicka: Increases Magicka by 100 points.
Weakness to Magic: Increases susceptibility to magic by 100%.
The MageAtronach Fortify Magicka: Increases Magicka by 150 points.
Spell Absorption: 50% chance of absorbing spells cast at them.
Stunted Magicka: Magicka regeneration is halted.

There are Birthsigns you can choose in character creation that can offer significant bonuses to Magicka. The Mage is a safe option, granting an additional +50 Magicka without drawbacks. For a greater challenge, The Apprentice provides a +100 Magicka boost but makes you more vulnerable to magic.

For a unique and advanced playstyle, The Atronach offers a massive +150 Magicka boost and 50% Spell Absorption, but removes natural Magicka regeneration, requiring careful resource management throughout your playthrough.

Use Magicka Enchanted Gear

Enchanted gear with Fortify Magicka effects provides a permanent boost to your Magicka pool while equipped. A good piece would be the Birthright of Astalon, a light armor that grants +50 Magicka and can be purchased from The Gilded Carafe.

You can also enchant your generic gear using an enchanting altar or Sigil Stones. Some Sigil Stones offer Fortify Magicka bonuses that can be applied to armor and jewelry.

Fortify Magicka Potions

Certain potions you can loot, purchase, or craft can provide a Fortify Magicka effect, temporarily increasing your Magicka for a limited duration. The strength and duration of the effect depend on the potion’s potency. Useful before tough battles where you need an extra boost to your Magicka pool.
