The Battlemage build has you charging into battle like a warrior, while using Spells and Magic to enhance your combat prowess. Prioritize your Blade and Heavy Armor skills for a good foundation of both offense and defense. Armorer is also important for maintaining your gear, especially your enchanted pieces.
For Magic, Conjuration is highly useful for combat support, with spells to summon Atronachs or Daedra to fight for you.
Alteration and Mysticism offer great utility with shield, absorb, and reflect spells to make you incredibly tanky. Additionally, Mysticism’s Soul Trap spells help you gather more powerful Soul Gems for enchantments.
| Primary | Claymore |
|---|---|
| Secondary | Spells |
Two-handed Claymores are the weapon of choice for this build, delivering powerful damage with each swing and devastating power attacks. Since you will rely on magical shields and defensive spells, you do not need to equip a shield.
For spellcasting, Conjuration Spells are the priority to cast first when heading into battle, to summon allies for support. Then, utilize the appropriate defensive spells such as Alteration's Shell or Shield spells, or Mysticism's Spell Reflection.
When your enemies are close to defeat, cast Soul Trap to capture souls for future enchantments.
| Best Race | Best Origin |
|---|---|
Breton
|
Systres |
Bretons make excellent Battlemages for their +50% Magic Resistance, in addition to an extra +50 Magicka Bonus to help with casting spells. The Systres origin is ideal, offering much needed Strength instead of Speed.
The Magic Resistance and Magicka bonuses more than make up for their lower starting Endurance and Speed. Paired with enchantments and defensive spells, you'll be a powerhouse against all types of damage.
Along with the potent racial powers, you also gain +10 to Conjuration and Mysticism, and +5 to Alteration, giving you a stronger head start in these Major Skills. Other solid races to pick for Battlemages are:
| Best Birthsign | Description |
|---|---|
The Lord |
Those born under the sign of The Lord are more resistant to physical and magic damage. ・ Shield: Increases Armor Rating by 15. ・ Resist Magic: Increases magic resistance by 15%. |
The Lord is a great choice for Battlemages since it boosts your Armor Rating and Magic Resistance. The bonuses are perfect for the heat of battle, helping you shrug off both physical and magical damage, especially when you have full Heavy Armor equipped and extra passive Magic Resistances.
These defensive boosts turn your Battlemage into a nearly unstoppable force on the battlefield, making you incredibly hard to take down. Here are some alternative options that also offer strong value for Battlemage builds:
| Specialization | Favored Attributes |
|---|---|
|
Magic Magic +5 to Magic Skills and all Magic skills level up faster.
