The Knight is a charismatic soldier class that uses their mastery with the Blade and Illusion magic to kill, charm, or command their enemies on the battlefield.

When starting as a Knight, prioritize raising your Blade and Armorer skills while exploring so that you have an easier time fighting and repairing your enchanted gear during the mid- to endgame. You can safely ignore Heavy Armor and Athletics since both will level up passively.

Next, attain a mastery of Illusion spells since they're pretty handy inside and outside of combat. At higher levels, you'll start being able to force enemies to do your bidding, silence their magic, cause them to flee in terror, or simply paralyze them in place.

Note: While Speechcraft is included as one of your major skills, it isn't really that important to level up since you can just use Illusion spells to sway conversations in your favor, anyway.

Attributes

Attribute Spread 1 +5 Strength
+1 Luck (uses 4 points)
+3 to END, INT, WILL
Attribute Spread 2 +5 STR
+5 Willpower or Endurance
+2 INT, AGI, or SPEED

Attribute point distribution during each level up will be a bit more spread compared to other classes. Since you'll want a mastery of multiple skills, it could potentially be worth it to invest in Luck during the early stages of the game.

To break down the 12 Virtues per level during early game, you can opt to go with the scheme of +5 Strength, +1 Luck (uses 4 points), then +3 to either Endurance, Intelligence, or Willpower as shown in the table above.

Best Weapon Types for Knight

Primary Longsword and Shield
Alternative Claymore

Meta-wise, it'll always be best to go with the tried and tested, Longsword and Shield combo. Especially since Oblivion is known for having many of its best weapons fall under the one-handed swords weapon type.

However, if you truly want to roleplay as a knight in full plate armor, then the two-handed Claymore is a decent alternative especially since it also benefits from the perks of your Blade skill.

Best Identity for Knight

Best Race Best Origin
Imperial Imperial Colovia Imperial

Naturally, as a charismatic knight, you'll want to play as a race with high combat and personality attributes. The Colovia Imperial identity is the best in this regard, allowing you to start with 50 Personality and a balanced 40 in Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, and Endurance.

Plus, the Imperial racial bonuses play into the strengths of the Knight class, allowing you to start with 15 Heavy Armor and Personality before you even choose a class to play as.

Best Birthsign for Knight

Best Birthsign Description
The Lord The Lord Those born under the sign of The Lord are more resistant to physical and magic damage.
・ Shield: Increases Armor Rating by 15.
・ Resist Magic: Increases magic resistance by 15%.

Unfortunately, nothing truly comes close to the benefits of The Lord birthsign since it offers amazing physical and magic damage resist for free at level 1.

However, newer players can swap The Lord out for any of the following since these birthsigns makes it easier to choose which attributes to increase during the early game:

  • The Thief: Grants +10 Luck, +10 Agility, and +10 Speed at level 1. The Luck boost alone is amazing since +10 Luck is equivalent to 40 level ups already.
  • The Lady: Grants +10 Willpower and +10 Endurance at level 1. Allows you to focus on leveling other attributes during early game while giving you a headstart on reaching max Endurance.
  • The Warrior: The beginner friendly choice since most early game combat will just be swinging a weapon, anyway. +10 Strength and +10 Endurance is a good set of attributes to start with for more damage, carry weight, and HP at level 1.
