Yes to Get Free Stuff
It's recommended to always join the Blades since there are no downsides when doing so. Joining them also allows you to loot most of the items inside Cloud Ruler Temple, as well as getting a free horse and place to sleep.
Doesn't Work Like Other Factions
As a note, the Blades are different from other factions in that you only join them in name, and there's no faction-specific questline tied to it. Although, it could be argued that the Main Quest is their questline, it can still be completed without players even joining them.
