Methods to Cure Disease

Pray at Chapel Altars

Altar of the Nine

The easiest way to cure diseases is by using the Altars of the Nine, found in the chapels of all major cities except the Imperial City and Anvil. The Imperial City does not have a dedicated chapel, and the Anvil Chapel is immediately attacked from the start of the game in the Knights of the Nine questline.

City Chapel and Location
Bravil Building: Great Chapel of Mara
Location: Found in the northwest side of the city
Bruma Building: Great Chapel of Talos
Location: Found in the southern end of town.
Cheydinhal Building: Great Chapel of Arkay
Location: Found in the east side of town.
Chorrol Building: Chapel of Stendarr
Location: Found in the western end of town.
Kvatch Building: Chapel of Akatosh
Location: Found just in front of the southern entrance.
Leyawin Building: Great Chapel of Zenithar
Location: Found in the northwest portion of town.
Skingrad Building: Great Chapel of Julianos
Location: Found in the southeastern side of the city.

Altars Cannot Be Used if You Have a Bounty or Too Much Infamy

These Altars give only one blessing per day, but cannot be used if you have a Bounty from committing crimes, or if your Infamy stat is higher than your Fame. You can check these stats in the Details section of the Character menu.

Cast the Cure Disease Spell

You can use the Cure Disease Journeyman Restoration Spell, which you can purchase from the spell merchants inside of the divine chapels in the major cities.

How to Learn Spells

Consume a Cure Disease Potion

Cure Disease Potions can be found as random loot from chests or enemies, bought from potion stores such as The Gilded Carafe in Imperial City, or made yourself with Alchemy using ingredients that cure disease.

Consume Mandrake Root

Mandrake Root is by far the most cost-effective way to carry disease cures. These are much lighter in cost and weight than Cure Disease Potions, sold for only 1–2 Gold each in ingredient stores like The Main Ingredient in the Imperial City.

You only need to consume one Mandrake Root to fully cure yourself of all diseases. Furthermore, Mandrake Root is only 0.1 units in weight each, so you can stock up on these and use them any time you contract a disease.

Cure Porphyric Hemophilia Within Three Days

Diseases are one-time debuffs that won’t worsen over time, except for Porphyric Hemophilia that you get from Vampires. If not cured within three in-game days, it will turn you into a vampire, requiring a much more complicated process to cure.

Unless you intend to become a vampire, make sure to cure this disease quickly to avoid the lengthy steps needed to reverse vampirism.

How Diseases Work

Contracted From Certain Creatues

You can contract diseases from the attacks of certain creatures, such as Vampires, Zombies, and Rats. Each attack has a chance to infect you with a specific disease, like Porphyric Hemophilia from Vampires or Rockjoint from Zombies, and you will be notified on the top left of your screen if you contract it.

Four races have an inherent 75% Disease Resistance: Argonians, Redguards, High Elves, and Wood Elves.

Diseases Give Debuffs

Contracted diseases give you debuffs, which you can check in the Active Effects section of the Magic menu. Debuffs can reduce Attribute points, drain Fatigue or Magicka, or increase your vulnerability to certain types of damage.
