The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered

How to Level Up Illusion Fast

Add to Watchlist

Illusion Level Up Guide

This is a guide to Illusion, a Magic skill in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered. Read on to see all the level up effects and unlocks of Illusion, and learn how to level up Illusion to 100 quickly and easily!

How to Level Up Illusion

How to Level Up Illusion
Make Sure Illusion is One of Your Major Skills
Purchase Self-Target Illusion Spells
Spam Quick Cast and Wait to Power Level

Choose or Create a Class with Illusion as a Major Skill

If you want to level up Illusion quickly, you'll first want to max out the experience gain you can get for the skill during character creation. Here are a few bonuses you can get if you really want an optimized start:

  • Pick or Create a class that has Illusion as a Major Skill. When Illusion is set as a Major Skill, it gets +20 bonus levels and a faster level up rate.
  • Make sure your class specialization is Magic. Since Illusion is a Magic skill, playing a class with Magic specialization boosts the level up rate of Illusion even more.
  • Finally, for full optimization, play as a race that starts with +10 Illusion. For best results, play as a Breton or High Elf character.

If you followed the recommendations above, then you should be starting as an Apprentice with Level 35 Illusion after exiting the tutorial.

Purchase Self-Target Illusion Spells for All Skill Levels

Delphine Jend Spell Seller

Power leveling is a breeze. The real challenge is getting the required spells before you start power leveling your Illusion skill. For the purpose of power leveling, you'll want to purchase the following Self-Target Illusion spells:

Skill Level Illusion Spells for Leveling
Apprentice
Moonlight

Can be purchased from Delphine Jend at the Bravil Mages Guild. You start with this since it costs more Magicka to cast than Eyes of Eventide , netting you more skill XP per cast.
Journeyman
Shadow Shape

Can be purchased from Ita Rienus at the Bravil Mages Guild.
Expert
Shadow

Can be purchased from Ita Rienus at the Bravil Mages Guild.

Note: It is important to only get Self-Target Illusion spells for now since you won't have to look for an actual spell target. You can just spam cast Illusion spells on yourself for easy skill experience within the comfort of your home.

Do You Need to Upgrade Your Spam-Cast Spells to Power Level Illusion?

The short answer is yes, you need to. In the Oblivion Remaster, the higher a spell's Magicka cost is, the more skill XP you get in return for casting it.

For example, once you reach Journeyman level, your casts of Moonlight will start netting you less and less skill XP. If you want to level up fast, you have to start casting a high Magicka cost Illusion spell at the Journeyman level like Shadow Shape.

Spam Quick Cast and Wait to Farm Illusion Skill XP

Once you have all three of the spells listed in the previous section, head over to your house or a place with a nearby bed. Then, start spamming your chosen Illusion spell using quick cast (C on PC).

Once you run out of Magicka, hit T (PC) and wait for 1 hour. This should replenish your Magicka to full, allowing you to quickly resume spell spamming. Below is the breakdown of the required number of spell casts to get +1 Level at each mastery tier of the Illusion skill:

Req. No. of Casts Illusion Skill Lvl. Tier
5~6 casts of Moonlight +1 Level
Illusion Levels 35~40
6~7 casts of Moonlight +1 Level
Illusion Levels 40~45
7~8 casts of Moonlight +1 Level
Illusion Levels 45~50
3~4 casts of Shadow Shape +1 Level
Illusion Levels 50~60
4~6 casts of Shadow Shape +1 Level
Illusion Levels 60~70
6 casts of Shadow Shape +1 Level
Illusion Levels 70~75
3 casts of Shadow +1 Level
Illusion Levels 75~85
3~4 casts of Shadow +1 Level
Illusion Levels 85~100

Note: While you can use a Trainer like Carahil in the Anvil Mages Guild to get a few easy Illusion levels, it will cost you even more Gold so we don't recommend using their services.

Rest to Level Up and Increase Your Max Magicka

An important step while power leveling is to rest once you gain a character level up. This should allow you to assign Virtues that increase your Attributes permanently.

When power leveling Illusion, pump points into Intelligence to increase your max Magicka. By the time you reach Illusion level 85+, you'll want to have at least 100 Intelligence for more spell casts.

Illusion Level Up Effects and Unlocks

Level Unlocks
Base You can only cast Novice level Illusion spells.
25 You can cast Apprentice level Illusion spells.
50 You can cast Journeyman level Illusion spells.
75 You can cast Expert level Illusion spells.
100 You can cast all Illusion spells.

this isn't much of a guide, since it only tells you things you can read in your menu. i can look in my menu to see what levels each perk is earned at.
