Enchanting Methods

Enchant Using Sigil Stones

Step Walkthrough
1

Pick up a Sigil Stone. You obtain one each time you close an Oblivion Gate. All Oblivion Gates' Sigil Stones are located at the top of the main tower.
2

Open your Inventory and select the Sigil Stone you want to enchant an Armor, Clothing, Weapon, or Jewelry with.
3

Select the non-unique gear you want to enchant on the left. On the right is where you must name your Enchantment, and you’ll also see the effects and a preview of the final item.

The Sigil Stone’s effect changes depending on whether it's applied to Apparel or Weapons, as indicated by the icons beside the effect details.
4

After proceeding, you can now equip your newly named and enchanted weapon in your inventory.

Use an Enchanting Altar

Step Walkthrough
1

Find and use an Enchanting Altar. You can use the one in the Frostcrag Spire player home or the ones in the Arcane University in the Imperial City.
2

Select the Non-Unique piece of Armor, Weaponry, or Jewelry you want to enchant.
3

Select the Soul Gem you want to use for the Enchantment. The rarer and more powerful the Soul Gem, the stronger the final Enchantment will be.
4

Select the Enchantment effect you want. Available options are based on the Spells your character knows and can currently cast.
5

On the right, you must enter a name for your Enchantment to proceed. Below that, you can preview the final effects and stats before confirming.
6

After proceeding, you can now equip your newly named and enchanted weapon in your inventory.

Enchanting Altar Locations

Frostcrag Spire

You can access Frostcrag Spire and complete its short related quest to reach the home's inner areas, including the Enchanting Altar. However, to activate the altar, you must first purchase Magetallow Candles from Aurilinwae at the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City.

Once you've acquired the Magetallow Candles, return to the Enchanting Altar at Frostcrag Spire. Interact with the altar to place the candles, and it will then be ready for use.

The Arcane University

To access the Arcane University's Enchanting Altars, you must first join the Mages Guild. Afterwards, you need to complete all seven Recommendation Quests. Once completed, you will be granted entry to the Arcane University, and are free to use their devices.

There are four Enchanting Altars inside the Chironasium that you can access easily, and one more in the Arch-Mage's Quarters that you can only access legally far into the Guild's questline.
