Level Up When You Get the Chance

Allocating Attribute Stats

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion has adjusted the level up system where it will give you 12 Virtue points that you can allocate to your Attributes. You can choose up to three Attributes only to improve per level up, and each can be increased by up to +5.

This is a better leveling system than the original as you can now choose which attributes to increase each time you level up to prepare yourself better against enemies since they level up alongside you.

Leveling System Explained

Old Leveling System Can Makes Things Difficult

In the original version, certain attributes get automatic point increase when you level up in a skill that a specific attribute governs. For example, your Strength attribute will improve on your next level up if you improve your Blade skill since they are related.

This leveling system can be a hassle as the loot and enemies level up with you. This means that you might deal minimal damage against strong enemies even if you are Level 30, if you only increase non-combat skills beforehand and neglect increasing your combat ones.

How to Level Up

Level Up by Sleeping on a Bed

Sleep in Bed

Once you have enough XP to level up, an icon will appear on the upper right of the screen. To ascend to the next level officially, you need to sleep in any bed for any amount of time. Upon awakening, the Level Up screen will appear.

Sleeping on a bed is also how you level up officially in the original version of Oblivion.
