Talk to Tivela Lythandas
Listen to the rumors going around in Cheydinhal about a missing painter. Head to Rythe Lythandas's House, the home of the rumored missing painter.
Talk to Tivela Lythandas, Rythe's wife, to learn about the situation. Agree to help her, and she will give you the key to Rythe's studio.
Investigate Rythe's Study
Enter Rythe's studio with the key given to you by Tivela; it is the room to your right. Interact with the Unusual Painting to the Painted World, which will transport you inside it.
Talk to Rythe Lythandas
Upon arriving in the Painted World, Rythe will explain how he got trapped in the painting and the importance of his brush. To return to the real world, you must defeat the Painted Trolls and retrieve his brush from the thief.
Defeat The Painted Trolls
Kill the Trolls
Use the Clairvoyance Spell to find the trolls; there are three of them in total. You can sneak up behind them to eliminate them. Next to one of the trolls lies the corpse of the thief.
Give the Brush of Truepaint to Rythe
After killing the last troll, loot the Brush of Truepaint from the thief's body and hand it over to Rythe.
Return to Rythe's Study
Follow Rythe. He will paint a portal as a way of exit. Open the portal to get back to his study.
Talk to Rythe Lythandas
After you have returned to the real world, talk to Rythe to receive your reward and complete the quest.
A Brush with Death Rewards
Apron of Adroitness
You will receive the Apron of Adroitness for completing the quest A Brush with Death.
