Ulterior Motives is located in the Arcane University, in the Imperial City. Talk to Raminus Polus to start the quest.
Ulterior Motives Walkthrough
Talk to Raminus Polus
To start the quest, talk to Raminus again for your next quest. He's worried about the necromancers the player dispatched in the last quest so he asks that you retrieve a book from the Count of Skingrad, Janus Hassildor, in Castle Skingrad.
Head to Castle Skingrad and Talk to Mercator Hosidus
Head to Skingrad and talk to any castle guards. They will let you know that any appointments for the Count should go through Mercator Hosidus. He can be found in the Castle County Hall during the day.
Talk to him and he will tell you that the Count is unavailable today, and that you should try instead tomorrow.
Talk to Mercator Hosidus Again
Meet up with Mercator again the next day. He tells you that the Count will meet up with you, but not inside the castle. He tells you to meet the Count by the Cursed Mine, west of Skingrad at 2:00 AM.
Head to the Meeting Place Outside Skingrad
Head outside of Skingrad, just north of Grateful Pass Stables to wait for Mercator. Pass time around the area and you will see Mercator approach you with two Necromancers.
Defeat Mercator and His Necromancers
Dispatch of Mercator and the necomancers. It should be an easy battle as long as you keep distance and kill them one by one with your spells. After the battle, Janus will appear.
Talk to The Count of Skingrad
Janus lets you know that you've been deceived by the Guild, instead using you to spy on Janus rather than a simple fetch mission. He tells you to tell Raminus that he has no connections with Necromancers.
Return to Raminus
Return back to the Arcane University and report to Raminus to complete the quest and receive your promotion to Evoker.
Ulterior Motives Rewards
Spelldrinker Amulet
Upon your promotion to Evoker, you will receive the Spelldrinker Amulet. This amulet gives the player access to Spell Absorpttion.
