4* have Master Seal too Result are determined as soon as you put in the item. Where you battle next does not matter. RNG is time based, unlike in-battle hitrate or bond rings. 1* is good for starting of by throwing in a used vulnerary/antitoxin/torch 2* is best good money from selling the extra weapons and staves 3* is best for SP as you can maintain reinvestment of items to throw back into the well to reach 3* level without needing to dump in any extra items in on average. It also gives you a chance to get the Expert Book for huge SP. Only do 4* and 5* if you want to keep the items like the legendary Nodus staff or out of stock staves.
