Hephaestus deals crazy damage. However, he can be stun locked via Charm. This will prevent your physical attackers from hitting Hephaestus easily but it will massively help in preventing Hephaestus from moving.
Charm cannot be removed by magic attacks so it's having a damage-dealing spell caster is a must if you opt to use Charm against Hephaestus.
Spin Spam deals a decent amount of AOE damage but it can be mitigated by Rampart.
Make sure to always have Rampart available in case you run out of MP to use Philtre or if you don't want to abuse the Charm lock strategy.
Hephaestus can use two Megaton Presses after quad braving. It can one-hit KO a party member and Rampart will be removed by Spin Slam so it's suggested to use Sanctuary to avoid casualties.
Counter-Savvy is a support ability from the Ranger. It allows your character to dodge any counter attacks and it will greatly help against Hephaestus for your physical attackers.
Going physical is highly recommended if you don't opt to use Charm since magic attacks raises Hephaestus' BP.
