Overtime in Rainmaker occurs when the losing team is in control of the Rainmaker or if the winning team lost control of the Rainmaker 15 seconds before the end of regulation. When the latter happens, the losing team has 10 seconds to snag the Rainmaker to secure victory.
This period of time gives the losing team one last chance to win in the match!
How to Play Rainmaker | |
---|---|
The main goal of this battle mode is to grab the titular Rainmaker and bring it into the other team's base. The team that successfully brings the Rainmaker to the other team's goal wins the match.
If both teams can't reach the opposing team's goal, then the team with the lower goal distance will win the match!
Players need to ink the Rainmaker Shield to access the weapon, and breaking the shield will cause an ink explosion that will instantly splat the opposing team if they are close to it.
The player in charge of carrying the Rainmaker has 60 seconds to bring it to the enemy goal before it explodes in enemy ink. This explosion will instantly splat the player carrying it on top of inking a wide area of turf with enemy ink.
Retreating to your team's side of the map also speeds up the timer, so make sure you check if the coast is clear before grabbing the Rainmaker!
Splatoon 3 introduced a checkpoint system in Rainmaker where players can safely drop the Rainmaker without it returning to the center. This allows teams to regroup as they advance to the opposing team's territory.
Setting down the Rainmaker on a checkpoint, however, reforms the Rainmaker Shield which means you'll need to break it again to bring the Rainmaker to the next checkpoint or goal!
You can use the Rainmaker as a weapon and functions similar to charger weapons though heavier and with less range. A fully-charged attack from the Rainmaker fires a burst of ink similar to the Trizooka and can splat enemy players with a direct hit.
While powerful, holding the Rainmaker reduces your speed and you can't change your weapons or perform a Super Jump without dropping it.

Rainmaker Tips and Tricks | |
---|---|
You'll want to get to the center of the map where the Rainmaker is as soon as the match starts since breaking the shield inks a wide area of turf that you can use to press your advantage.
Make sure you're inking the surrounding turf as you're advancing to the Rainmaker to avoid losing ground to the opposing team.
Inking a wide area of turf near the checkpoints will give your teammates plenty of moving ground and places to refill their ink quickly.
Your team's knowledge of the map can determine the outcome of the match. Before the match actually starts, quickly press the X Button to get a glimpse of the overall map.
Take note of important locations such as checkpoints and conflict areas, and find a good path towards the opposing team's goal so you can plan you're route when advancing with the Rainmaker.
Whether you're holding the Rainmaker or providing support, avoid rushing in alone and instead group up with your teammates.
By providing ample cover fire for your teammates as they advance with the Rainmaker or inking turf into enemy territory, it's possible to end the match with a victory in less than five minutes!
Rank | Weapons |
---|---|
While all weapons are viable in this battle mode, weapons that can ink turf easily while also dealing good damage to the Rainmaker's Shield better to use.
Choose weapons with a balanced range, power, and fire rate since you're also defending the Rainmaker or wresting control of it from the opposing team!
