Splatoon 3 Inkling vs Octoling Differences and How to Change

Splatoon 3 gives you the choice between playing as Inklings or Octolings when creating your character. See what the differences between Inklings and Octolings are, how the choice affects gameplay, as well as which to choose and how to change between both.

Inkling and Octoling Differences

Design

The main difference between Inklings and Octolings is how they look. The design of Inklings are inspired by squids, so their suction cups are less pronounced, their tentacles end in softer edges, and their eye masks extend over the arch of their nose.

Meanwhile, Octolings are inspired by octopuses, so they often have very visible suction cups, their tentacles end in a point, and their eye masks only appear around their eyes.

Hairstyles

Another difference that you will notice right away once you begin customizing your character is that the two species have different hairstyle options available. Octolings, who have 8 available hairstyles, have half the number of options as Inklings, who get 16.
