How to Spawn King Salmonid

Fill Up the Salmometer

King Salmonid Cohozuna will appear once the Salmometer gauge is full, which you can fill this up by simply undertaking Freelance Jobs.

The gauge accumulates whether you successfully complete or fail a Salmon Run, and will reset once you defeat the King Salmonid!

King Salmonid Cohozuna appears during the Xtrawave event after successfully completing three waves. The wave timer will announce the last wave as Wave 3 instead of Final Wave when King Salmonid is bound to appear.

After successfully completing the last wave, an Emergency! announcement will flash on the screen followed by the King Salmonid erupting from the waves!

Defeat King Salmonid within the Time Limit

Xtrawave starts at the end of the third Salmon Wave and you have 100 Seconds to defeat King Salmonid Cohozuna.

Boss Salmonids Also Appear

Boss Salmonids will continously spawn to assist Cohozuna and present a bigger danger to the team by far, with particularly dangerous Bosses such as Flyfish capable of taking out the entire team easily.

While your priority is defeating the King Salmonid, make sure you take care of the Boss Salmonids. This will prevent you from getting swarmed and give you enough Golden Eggs to use against Cohozuna!
All Boss Salmonids and How to Beat Them

Use the Egg Cannon to Shoot Golden Eggs

Your team is supplied with an Egg Cannon at the start of Xtrawave, which uses Golden Eggs as ammo. This weapon deals a lot of damage against King Salmonid Cohozuna and is your primary weapon to take him down!

Water Level Carries Over from the Previous Wave

The Water Level from the previous wave carries over to Xtrawave and can make the fight with Cohozuna particularly difficult if the water level is high.

You have a few seconds to ink and navigate the stage before the King Salmonid actually gets to the stage so use this opportunity to ink some turf and get to a high place!

This can make the fight with Cohozuna particularly difficult if the water level is high as there's less room to navigate

Loss is Not Counted in the Salmon Run

Losing to King Salmonid Cohozuna, whether running out of time or the whole team getting splatted, doesn't count as a loss at the end of the run recap. Your entire Salmon Run still counts as a success and you won't receive a pay cut!

Collect Golden Eggs

Your priority during this fight is to collect Golden Eggs to use against King Salmonid Cohozuna, which are dropped by Boss Salmonids that will continuously appear throughout Xtrawave.

Make sure to have a healthy supply of Golden Eggs so you can take down the King Salmonid fast!

Prioritize Dangerous Boss Salmonids

King Salmonid Cohozuna, while powerful, functions more like a stage hazard rather than a proper boss. Certain Boss Salmonids can deal more damage to players if they aren't taken care of.

Prioritize particularly dangerous Boss Salmonids such as Steel Eel, Maws, and Flyfish as they can easily take out the entire team especially when the water level is high.

Ink the Surrounding Area

The swarm of Salmonids roaming around the stage along with Cohozuna's slam attacks can ink a lot of arena and make navigating and refilling ink very difficult.

At least one player should focus on inking turf to ensure the team has enough room to evade the encroaching Salmonids and Cohozuna's AOE attacks.

Save Your Special for Boss Salmonids

You can also use your Special Weapons on Cohozuna, though they don't deal as much damage as shooting it with Golden Eggs.

Instead, use your specials to take out the Boss Salmonids as they will prove troublesome when fighting the King Salmonid, especially in smaller stages.

Special Gauge Refreshes During the Fight

Your Special Gauge refreshes during the King Salmonid fight, so you're free to use up all three specials in the previous waves.

King Salmonid Rewards

Earn Fish Scales in Xtrawave

Fighting King Salmonid Cohozuna rewards you with three types of Fish Scales at the end of the match, ranging from Bronze, Silver, to the rare Gold Fish Scales. The higher the hazard level, the rarer the Fish Scales you'll get from the King Salmonid.

You can use these Fish Scales to purchases special rewards from Grizzco, such as new Work Suits, Decorations, Stickers, and even Banners!

Losing Still Rewards Fish Scales

Losing to King Salmonid Cohozuna will still reward you with Fish Scales provided you've hit it a few times with the Egg Launcher.

Keep in mind that you'll get less fish scales from losses, so try and defeat the King Salmonid for better rewards!
