Talk to Murch to Add Abilities

You can add abilities to your gear by talking to Murch outside the Multiplayer Lobby. Talk to him and select the option to Add Abilities. Although you can add abilities without fail, you'll need a lot of ability chunks to do so.

Cost of Adding Gear Abilities

Gear Power Number of pieces required
Primary Gear Ability Total of 45 Ability Chunks
Secondary Gear Ability Total of 10 Ability Chunks
Second additional Gear Ability of the same kind Total of 20 Ability Chunks
Third additional Gear Ability of the same kind Total of 30 Ability Chunks

Attaching an ability to your gear will cost you 10 Ability Chunks, but if you add another Gear Ability of the same type, the cost will get much higher for each one.

If you want to replace unwanted abilities from your gear, you can simply talk to Murch found outside the Lobby Entrance and select the "Add Ability" option. Select which gear you want to have their abilities replaced by exchanging ability chunks.

Rerolling Your Gear

If you don't have a lot of ability chunks to replace your gear's abilities, you can choose to replace it by rerolling your gear instead. By talking to Murch, you'll have an option to reroll a gear with 3 ability slots filled at the cost of 1 Super Sea Snail, which you can get from Splatfests .

What ability you get will be random, but any old abilities that were replaced will give you ability chunks, giving you the chunks to replace unwanted abilities.
