Adding or changing gear abilities in Splatoon 3 can be done in numerous ways, mainly by using ability chunks. Learn all the ways you can do to add or change your abilities.

Gaining experience and leveling up your gear will reward you with abilities for your gear, depending on the amount of ability slot the gear has. Although, with this method, you won't be able to choose your gear ability and will instead be granted a random one.
When obtaining abilities to your gear through leveling. It's important to know that the brand associated with the gear matters, as you'll get a higher or lower chance of acquiring a specific ability from the type of brand the gear has.
All Gear Brands and Compatible Abilities
You can also use Drink Tickets, which you can get from Salmon Runs or the Gacha Machine, to increase the chance of getting the ability for your gear, as long as the duration is active.
The fastest way to get experience for your gear is by participating in Regular Battles or Anarchy Battles and getting consistent wins. The more battles you win, the more experience you can get, but losing will net you little exp.

You can add abilities to your gear by talking to Murch outside the Multiplayer Lobby. Talk to him and select the option to Add Abilities. Although you can add abilities without fail, you'll need a lot of ability chunks to do so.

Attaching an ability to your gear will cost you 10 Ability Chunks, but if you add another Gear Ability of the same type, the cost will get much higher for each one.
How to Replace Gear Abilities |

If you want to replace unwanted abilities from your gear, you can simply talk to Murch found outside the Lobby Entrance and select the "Add Ability" option. Select which gear you want to have their abilities replaced by exchanging ability chunks.
If you don't have a lot of ability chunks to replace your gear's abilities, you can choose to replace it by rerolling your gear instead. By talking to Murch, you'll have an option to reroll a gear with 3 ability slots filled at the cost of 1 Super Sea Snail, which you can get from Splatfests .
What ability you get will be random, but any old abilities that were replaced will give you ability chunks, giving you the chunks to replace unwanted abilities.
