In Splatoon 3, you can do a squid roll by diving into ink, gaining speed, then pressing b while also tilting the left joystick opposite of the direction you're going towards. Read on to learn how to do a Squid Roll and its effects!

How to Do a Squid Roll

Dive, Gain Speed, Jump!

Controls While in Swim Mode (Hold ZR),
Tilt the Left Control Stick + Press B to Jump

To do a Squid Roll, you need to dive into ink first. Keep swimming for a few seconds to gain speed then jump and tilt the left joystick in the opposite direction of where you're going.

Squid Roll Vertically

You can also do a squid roll vertically! Do this while swimming up walls then jump and tilt the left joystick upward or downward.

When you do a Squid Roll, your character will glow briefly in the air. The Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct confirmed that when this happens, you slightly repel ink from opponents. This is very helpful when you're trying to get away from enemies.

Turf War battles can be quite challenging especially when there are multiple enemies trying to take you down. With Squid Roll, you can easily change directions if you see enemies coming your way.

Shoot Right After Surfacing

Squid Rolls can also be used offensively! Take advantage of that brief window of invulnerability when you glow and shoot your opponents while in the air.

You can improve Squid Roll by equipping gear that has the ability Intensify Action. This ability lets you shoot enemies with a steady aim while doing a Squid Roll.
