Splatoon's colorful and loud aesthetic comes through once again for the third game in the series. And it looks like player customization is at its all time high.
The reveal trailer for Splatoon 3 appears to walk us through the main character creator process for Splatoon 3. Details that can be tweaked appear to include details such as physical stature, skin tone, eye color, hair, and leg-wear.
That's not all! Not only do you get to customize your playable character, it looks like you can even customize your companion, Little Buddy, too! We're sure that this is just a taste of the character customization available in Splatoon 3.
It's not enough to look good, you've got to dress good, too! Thankfully it looks like a large selection of brands and styles will be offered in Splatoon 3. Dress to impress with all the different outfits available.
A new addition spotted from the April 22 trailer is nameplate customization before entering a Turf War. Looks like players will have a chance to show off their style, not just in-battle, but pre-battle too!
Splatoon 3 matches its grungy aesthetic with improved animations that fill each character with personality! The way that characters move and express themselves through their body language has been refined making Splatoon 3's inklings and octolings some of the most expressive thus far.
The Tri-Stringer is a bow-like weapon that inks surfaces and splats opponents in three different directions. It can be fired both horizontally and vertically.
Ink surfaces with the Splatana Wiper by swinging it around. Charge it for a bit then release it to ink surfaces from a distance. It can also be used to splat opponents nearby!
The Splatana Stamper is a chainsaw-looking weapon adorned with little stamps around the edges. It's considered as a heavyweight weapon that can deal a lot of damage.
You can purchase weapons from Sheldon in exchange for Sheldon Licenses. These licenses can be obtained by leveling up through battles or by constantly using the same weapons.
If you want to get a new weapon without having to worry about your rank, you can use 3 Sheldon Licenses instead of one so you can get the weapon right away.
The Tacticooler dispenses drinks that will increase you and your team's speed momentarily.
The Wave Breaker is a device that sends waves that can splat opponents around an area. Avoid the waves by timing your jump.
The Crab Tank is an armored vehicle with a superior inkpower. It doesn't have a long range but it can deal a devastating blow to anyone who gets near it as it's inking turf.
Its back is vulnerable to enemy attacks, but you can shift into mobile mode with ZL to protect yourself.
The Reefslider is a shark-shaped float that you can use to charge at enemies and give them a good splat.
All Specials: How to Use Special Weapons
A new sub weapon called the Angle Shooter is inkoming! When used, it fires a straight line that bounces off walls and splats enemies that take a direct hit.
All Sub Weapons and Their Effects
Gear Ability | Effect |
---|---|
Intensify Action | Makes Squid Rolls and Squid Surges easier to do and steadies your aim when firing after jumping. |
A new gear ability is also coming to Splatoon 3. Intensify Action has replaced 'Main Power Up' from the previous games.
All Gear Abilities and Effects
You can now add abilities to your favorite gear with the help of Murch. Not much is known about this mechanic but in the Nintendo Direct, it says 45 Ability Chunks are needed.
You can save your favorite gear set as your freshest fits so you can change in a flash! This can also be done by scanning a Splatoon amiibo on the amiibo platform in Splatsville.
Stay fresh with the trendiest goods and gear of the season. Redeem Catalog Points toward a rotating selection of gear, Splashtags, and more.
Following the game's launch, a new catalog will be released every 3 months for the next 2 years so be sure to get everything you see in each catalog.
In Splatoon 3, you can do a Super Jump that will let you choose your landing spot with greater precision when launching into a stage.
Scale walls faster by charging up ink and blasting yourself upward. You can even take down enemies by surprise using this move.
Jump in the opposite direction while swimming in ink to keep your opponent's guessing. Watch yourself glow and slightly repel ink from your opponents when you do this slick move!
Ranked Battles have been replaced with Anarchy Battles in Splatoon 3. It has two game modes - Open or Series. Check out the summary of the two game modes below!
Open | Series |
---|---|
・Play solo or with friends ・Opponents' ranks are determined by the lowest ranking player in the group ・Earn less points |
・Play solo ・Compete with opponents with similar raink ・You can play with the same team again after a battle ・Ends after 5 wins or 3 losses ・Earn more rank points as you rank up |
Tricolor Turf War is a 4v2v2 Turf War Battle recently added in Splatoon 3. It is exclusively available during the second half of the Splatfest.
Its mechanics work just like regular Splatfest battles, only this time, there are 3 teams fighting in a single match.
Four members of the team currently in first place will start at the center of the arena while two players each from the opposing teams will try to take them down from opposite sides.
Though the dates haven't been specified, X Battle and League Battle are planned for future updates. X Battle is unlocked after attaining an extremely high rank in Anarchy Battle. In League Battles, players can compete every two hours in teams based on their Anarchy Battle results.
There are at least five new stages that are confirmed in Splatoon 3. These stages will surely be a refreshing experience to veteran players of Splatoon.
Eeltail Alley | Hagglefish Market |
Mincemeat Metalworks | Scorch Gorge |
Undertow Spillway |
Replaying old battles is now possible in Splatoon 3. The Battle Replay function can be accessed through the Lobby Terminal in the Battle Lobby.
With this new feature, you can fast-forward or skip to a certain part of the battle. You can even swap to another player's view and post the video online!
The Test Range is now available while queueing. Here, you can try out new weapons on the target dummies!
The Deep Cut Trio makes their debut in Splatoon 3. These idols host the Anarchy Splatcast and provide information on battle stages currently available, as well as other news bulletins.
In Splatoon 3, you can decorate your own locker in the locker room. You can also view the lockers of players you've recently played with.
Shop for stickers and other items at Hotlantis to give your locker a fresh look!
Tableturf Battle is a card game where two players compete to see who can ink the most 2D table turf.
There are over 150 cards to collect in the minigame so pick out which ones suit your playstyle the best and build your very own deck!
King Salmonid Cohozuna was also announced during the Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct. This huge salmonid sometimes wreaks havoc in the arena just before you finish a Salmon Run.
Shoot it with Golden Eggs to wilt down its health.
Fish Stick is a pillar with a few number of smallfries flying around at the top. These smallfries rain ink that covers the area surrounding Fish Stick.
Ink one side of the Fish Stick and climb on top to be able to take down the smallfries.
Flipper Flopper shoots a ring of ink at players and when it lands on the ground, it covers the entire area of the circle. It will then splat anyone caught in the circle.
To take down Flipper Flopper, other team members need to cover the circle with player ink so when it flops down, its armor breaks. Splat it with ink afterward to defeat it.
The Slammin' Lid creates a barrier that protects Salmonids on the ground. It will try to crush any player that gets close to it so approach with caution.
Big Shot shoots heavy projectiles from a distance. When they land, it creates a shockwave that can splat players.
