Final Boss Fight Guide: How to Beat Mr. Grizz

Mr. Grizz is the final boss of Hero Mode, and his fight is unlocked by beating Big Man, the boss of Happiness Research Lab. After watching a series of cutscenes and reaching the top of the Alterna Space Center, the fight with Mr. Grizz will begin.

Two Phase Boss Fight

Phase one will take place atop Mr. Grizz's Rocket.

In phase two, Small Fry will turn into Bigfry, and help you fight Mr. Grizz.

The fight with Mr. Grizz has two phases, each with different attack patterns and strategies. Clearing each phase acts as a checkpoint, so do not worry if you are splatted during the second phase.

How Beat Mr. Grizz Boss Fight

Phase 1

How to Beat Mr. Grizz (Phase 1)
1. Collect Salmonid Eggs when you see them.
2. Use these eggs to remove the Fuzzy Ink on the stage.
3. Once you get near Mr.Grizz, shoot the 3 holes on his chest. 3 successful hits will end Phase 1.
Mr. Grizz's Attacks (Phase 1)
Mr. Grizz will swing his claws, creating pillars of ink. You can stand in between them to avoid them.
After getting hit once, Mr. Grizz will launch bombs that will cause large explosions of ink. Run away when you see these.
As you get closer to Mr. Grizz, he will emit a sonic attack that will splat you if you stay within its range for too long. Move out of the path when you see the attack starting.
Mr. Grizz will grab the ship and roll it, attempting to knock you off. Keep moving opposite of the ship's direction to avoid falling off
On the final hit of phase one, Mr. Grizz will start to raise his arms and slam the ground when you are near him. Avoid this attack when possible, as it will also knock you back.

The first phase of this fight will take place on Mr. Grizz's rocket. Collect Salmonid Eggs scattered across the stage and power up Smallfry to remove the Fuzzy Ooze and get closer to Mr. Grizz. Once you are close enough, shoot one of the three holes in his chest to damage him.

In addition to avoiding Mr. Grizz's attacks, various enemies will spawn on the stage and attack you. Although defeating them is not necessary for ending the first phase of the fight, getting rid of them will make this phase of the fight much easier to clear.

Phase 2

How to Beat Mr. Grizz (Phase 2)
1. Approach Mr. Grizz while he is attacking Bigfry and suck the glowing fuzzballs off of his body by pressing and holding the ZR button.
2. After sucking up all of fuzzballs, you must press and hold the ZR to fire a big laser at Mr. Grizz, which will end the fight.
Mr. Grizz's Attacks (Phase 2)
"Fake Fuzzballs" will appear and block your path. Make sure to avoid these when trying to get close.
Although Mr. Grizz will be focused on attacking Bigfry, his attacks, such as his claw swipe can still hurt you. Make sure to keep your distance to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
As you shave the glowing fuzzballs, enemies will occasionally spawn on top of the ship to attack you. Get rid of them quickly to avoid being splatted.

The beginning of the second phase starts with Smalfry enlarging himself and fighting Mr. Grizz, who is now attempting to steer the rocket toward Earth himself. You must suck the giant fuzzballs off of Mr. Grizz's body to damage him and must remove all of them within 3 minutes and 33 seconds to win this phase.

Although Mr. Grizz does not attack you directly, various enemies will spwan as you are removing the fuzzballs and attack you during this phase. These enemies can overwhelm you if they are not taken care of, so make sure to quickly defeat them whne they appear.

Be sure to also avoid the giant fuzzballs that appear at random, while collecting the armor that frequently spawns to bolster your defenses. Once you suck 3 giant fuzzballs off of Mr. Grizz, you will fire a giant laser to defeat him, ending the fight and beating Hero Mode.

Ink the Area Around You

Inking a wide area in phase 1 will help with avoiding attacks.

Keeping the area heavily inked in phase 2 with giving you more room to fight enemies.

Keeping the area around you inked will prove useful for avoiding attacks and moving around quickly. Keeping the area you ride on top off in phase 2 is especially important, as it maximizes the amount of space you have to move, as well as charges your Special Weapon to easily defeat enemies.

Keep Your Distance in Phase 2

Although Mr.Grizz will be focused on fighting Bigfry in phase 2, his attacks can still hit you if you are too close. You can still suck the fuzzballs off of Mr. Grizz's body from far away, so be sure to keep your distance to avoid taking damage.

How to Fight Mr. Grizz Again

Find the Bear Sculpture Near the Squid Sisters Camp

Search for the bear statue near the Squid Sisters Camp located on Future Utopia Island.

Select Relive Memories, then Return to Rocket Battle to fight Mr. Grizz again.

Similar to other boss fights in Hero Mode, you can fight Mr. Grizz after beating him the first time. Search for a wooden bear sculpture near the Squid Sisters Camp on Future Utopia Island, and then select the Relive Memories, then Return to Rocket Battle option to fight Mr. Grizz again.

Note that you must play through certain parts of the Alterna Space Center level once more in order to fight Mr. Grizz. You can however, choose to skip to the second phase of the fight if you want.

Mr. Grizz is the owner and boss of Grizzco, the company that manages and runs Salmon Run in both Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3. However, before Splatoon 3, he was only depicated as a carved wooden bear and it is only now that he is shown in the flesh.

The Game Mode is accessed by entering Grizzco Industries and speaking to Mr. Grizz. Salmon Run Next Wave is a survival co-op multiplayer in Splatoon 3 where 4 players fight hordes of Salmonids and collect Golden Eggs.
