Character Customization Guide: How to Change Your Character

Splatoon 3 Character Creation

Character Creation in Splatoon 3 includes a variety of different skin tones, eye colors, hairstyles, and outfits. Read on to find out how to create your character, change and customize their appearance, as well as their little buddy, Smallfry.

How to Change Your Character's Appearance

Open Player Settings

Splatoon 3 - Player Settings
You can change your character's skin and eye color by accessing the customization options through the menu.

Steps Description
1 Open the menu by pressing X
2 Press R to go to Options, and select Other
3 Click Player Settings to change up your look!

You Will Not Lose Your Progress

Clicking 'Yeah' after clicking Player Settings will bring you back to the character customization part at the start of the game.

You will not lose your progress by changing your look this way, and will be brought back to Splatsville after customizing your character.

Before you officially begin the game, you will need to choose the overall look of your character. There are several ways you can customize your character and you can always change their appearance later on, so you don't need to worry about making a final look.

Style

Splatoon 3 Character Style

The first character option is style, which refers to your character's species and the gender they present themselves as. There are two playable species in Splatoon 3, Inklings and Octolings. Inklings are the original protaginists of the franchise while Octolings were added as playable characters later on.

Skin Tone

Splatoon 3 Character Skin Tone

There are nine different skin tone options to choose from in the game, ranging from light to dark. There are unfortunately no unrealistic skin colors among these options.

Eye Color

There are 26 different eye colors you can choose for your character, which includes a variety of different shades and hues. There are even color options that to have different pupl, iris, and outer iris colors.

Hairstyle

There are 16 different hairstyles available for your character of different lengths and designs. Though you can change the style of hair at any time, there is no option to change your hair color in the game since hair color is determined by the color of your team during your most recent match.

Brows

Splatoon 3 Character Brows

You can choose among four styles of eyebrows. These range from thin to thick brows, and even a style that has an eyebrow slit.

Legwear

Splatoon 3 Character Legwear

There does not seem to be an option to change your character's top clothing, which makes sense since these will need to purchased in the shop. However, you can still choose among 9 different legwear options, consisting of a variety of pants and shorts.

Splatoon 3 Equip Outfits and Gear

Once you start playing the game and unlock the different gear shops, you can continue to customize your character's appearance with different gear and equipment. These gear also grant you with different abilities that give you an edge in battle.

Gnarly Eddy and Nails
Purchase Headgear such as hats, masks, and glasses.
Man-o'-Wardrobe

Purchase Clothing such as tops, t-shirts, and jackets.

Purchase Shoes such as sneakers, sandals, and leather footwear.

Smallfry Customization Options

Splatoon 3 Customize Little Buddy

After customizing your character, you are prompted to customize your “little buddy”, Smallfry. He is a small pet Salmonid that accompanies your character on their adventures in Story Mode.

Unfortunately, you can only customize Smallfry's hairstyle and not any other parts of his appearance.
