The Splatoon games are one of Nintendo's most popular series and one of the best selling games on the Switch. The latest installment, Splatoon 3, was one of the biggest Switch-exclusive titles that sold millions of copies in the first few days of release.
It doesn't make that much sense to put an end to one of the fastest-selling video games on the market, especially after Splatoon 3's recent boost in popularity since the game's official release.
Fans of the series would definitely be eager for another title once Splatoon 3 begins to go downhill in terms of hype and popularity.
According to the Splatoon 3 Direct Presentation, the developers announced that they will regularly release Splatoon 3 updates every 3 months for 2 years. Each update includes new in-game catalogs and weapons!
With the developers being busy working on these upcoming content, it's safe to assume that there will not be any new Splatoon game coming out within the next two years.

Given that each Splatoon game was released 2-3 years apart, we could expect the next game to drop around 2025 and an announcement trailer will be revealed by 2024.
As mentioned during the Direct Presentation's story mode section of the video, the voice-over had said that Splatoon 3 will be the finale of the story - 'We hope you can witness the epic finale of the Splat-tastic saga!'
This could mean that it's only going to be the end of this particular story arc and future Splatoon games will move on to new tales and adventures!
Splatsville was a new hub introduced in Splatoon 3. Since we mentioned that a new tale might be taking place, we could expect a brand new starting area we could explore, familiarize, and enjoy.
The developers are planning to update the multiplayer features by adding X-Battle and League Battle game modes. If Splatoon 3 will truly be the swan song of the franchise, then updating the competitive aspect of the game is an excellent way to keep the playerbase busy for the years to come.
However, the gameplay mechanics of Splatoon 3 will not be changed. When it comes to the point that fans will be asking for an engine update to keep up to the modern technological pace, a major overhaul would be needed. This would only be possible with a release of a new title.
