Disconnect Penalty Guide

Splatoon 3 - Disconnect Guide Banner

Regular disconnections results in penalties including temporary bans and time-outs from multiplayer matches in Splatoon 3. Read on to find out the penalties of getting disconnected, what happens in a match during a disconnect, and how to avoid disconnections.

What Are the Disconnect Penalties

First Warning

If you get disconnected for the first time, you will be issued a warning stating that any continuous disconnections will result in temporary bans or time-outs from joining any multiplayer match.

All warnings and bans will only be issued when you disconnect during a match.

Frequent Disconnections Will Increase Ban Time

Splatoon 3 - Penalty Time

For players who disconnect for the first few games, players will be issued a temporary ban by not being able to participate in any multiplayer game modes for 5-minutes.

Any further disconnections will increase the ban time up to an hour, prolonging their inability to join a multiplayer battle.

What Happens When a Player Disconnects During a Match

The Match Will End Immediately

Splatoon 3 - Match End Immediately

The on-going match will end abruptly should one or more players get disconnected. All disconnected players will be issued a loss.

Players who remained in the game will not be affected and the match will not count for them.

How to Avoid Disconnects

Check Your Internet Connection

Check if your internet connection is stable and without any problems before deciding to play a match.

Be sure to check the router if it's working properly, this includes the speed and the range of its connection.

If internet issues still persist, always contact your ISP first to appropriately resolve the issue to avoid further complications.

Use an Ethernet Cable

Plugging in an Ethernet Cable to your Nintendo Switch dock will speed up and stabalize your internet connection.

For users who own the original Switch model, you will need a Wired Internet LAN Adapter to connect an Ethernet Cable while OLED owners do not need the adapter.

Unfortunately, owners of the Nintendo Switch Lite will not be able to use LAN connection.

Sometimes when i see something odd happing in the match i get this penalty...despite staying connected the whole match... Is this system even working as it should be?

Yeah, and who else is by far the most responsible for all these disconnects then Nintendo’s servers themselves, constantly. Maybe instead of punishing us, you should actually try to fix your damn servers.
