Sanity is lost when in areas that are corrupted or polluted, or when the player takes damage from Deviants. Below are some methods for restoring lost Sanity.
The simplest way to restore Sanity is to sleep in a Bed. Interacting with any Bed furniture will put the player's character to sleep, restoring Health and Sanity over time. To get up from sleep, simply use the movement keys (WASD).
You can build a bed by pressing B to enter Build Mode, and navigating to the Furniture tab to find your unlocked Bed blueprints. The most basic Bed is unlocked via Memetics, and costs 20 Logs and 3 Adhesive.
Another method of regaining Sanity is to use the Sanity Gummy. When consumed, the gummies will instantly replenish a portion of the Sanity Gauge.
These gummies can be crafted at a Stove using 1 Sugar and 1 Water (either Boiled or Pure). To get the recipe for Sanity Gummies, players will need to unlock the Electric Stove node in the Memetics screen.
Certain food items, such as the Fruit Tea, can also restore Sanity when consumed. Check your recipes and see if you can cook these kinds of dishes to replenish your sanity!
Similarly to the Sanity Gummies, a Stove is also needed to cook any of the sanity-restoring food recipes.
As an example, Fruit Tea costs 1 of any kind of Flower and 1 Water (either Boiled or Pure) to cook at a stove.
When your Sanity drops, a portion of your HP bar will turn grey. You will not be able to heal the greyed out part of your HP bar until your Sanity has been restored accordingly.
