At the start of a new game, you can press B to designate an area as Territory. You can move this Territory and your base later on in the game by entering Build Mode and pressing Z.
How to Move Territory and Base
After placing down your Territory marker, you can press B to enter Build Mode, and then right-click to bring up the menu of items you can build.
Note that all buildings require resources, so make sure you've gathered enough materials for what you want to construct.
Foundations are the base of every house build, as they provide a stable surface upon which to place other facilities and furniture you construct down the line.
Once you've set these up, construct some walls and ceilings to provide you with some base defense and in-game privacy.
If you don't want to spend time designing your own house, you can also opt to use a building preset, which you can access under the House Blueprint tab of the build menu.
These presets will let you make a building based on the blueprint's design, and you'll be able to make an entire house if you have all the materials needed for the pieces of the building.
Lastly, populate your space with helpful facilities that are necessary to progress through the game. Things like stoves, workbenches, and furnaces are just some examples of integral facilities that will make life better in-game.
Note that certain useful structures and furniture are unlocked via the Memetics tree, and will require you to invest Ciphers and Energy Links to unlock them.
Placing down your Territrory in an area with lots of nearby available resources will make it easier to gather materials for your needs.
Remember that you can move your territory, so if you see a good spot to relocate to, do not hesitate to do so!
Certain facilities are good options to prioritize during the early stages of building. Crafting stations like workbenches, material refiners such as furnaces, and places to cook like stoves are all great options to build early.
These facilities will expedite progress in the early game by giving you access to better gear and supplies to help you explore.
You can construct multiple facilities, such as Furnaces, to greatly improve the rate at which you can refine raw materials. If you have extra space in your base, it may be a good idea to double up on these processing facilities.
You can press ~ in Build Mode to enter flight. This will allow you to maneuver around your base easily, and makes repositioning to place roofs a simpler task.
The Memetics tree will make more building blueprints available to you once you unlock specific nodes. Make sure to check if there's something that you find useful, so you can set yourself on the path to unlocking it.
Later on in the game, you'll have access to facilities that need power to be used. For these, you need to make power generating facilities like the Solar or Biomass Generators, which generate electricity.
Each of these power facilities generate a set amount of electricity. You'll be able to check if a facility you want to build needs a certain amount of Watts to run in the build menu.
If you want to relocate to another location which has easier access to more resources, you can move your base via Build Mode.
This can be useful late in the game where you may need to constantly farm better materials, which are located in the further sections of the map.
Later on in the game, you'll have access to a bunch of facilities that you'd want to put in your base, but it may feel too cramped fitting everything.
You can always expand your Territory by getting the Territory Expansion Memetic under the Building tree in the Memetics menu. Doing so will expand your base from 14.4 square meters to 32.4, which is a lot of space!
Construction mode now includes a grid alignment system to help you build more precisely. This feature displays a grid map on your territory, allowing you to place foundations and facilities neatly. With Grid Snap, the rotation angle is fixed at 45 degrees, and you can adjust the height of your foundations by half a wall's height.
If you prefer a more flexible building style, you can disable Grid Alignment mode and return to the freeform construction approach. This way, you can choose between precision and creativity as you design your base. Press CAPS to disable Grid Snap.
Instead of jumping on your roof, press the ~ key to enter Flight Mode, then use the Spacebar and C keys to adjust your elevation. This will allow you to angle your placement of roofs better.
When placing roofs, try to come at the area you want to roof from the side instead of head on, as this will make placing the roof in the correct spot easier.
