The Fabled Masamune Build is all about breaking the rules. Admittedly, melee builds are unorthodox, but that's half the fun. Here, the legendary katana, the Fabled Masamune, is the star of the show, while guns take a backseat. Keep your weapon's durability high for a massive +120% Crit DMG, and use a quick-draw attack for a +30% boost and guaranteed crit to dish out some serious pain.
Your gear, like the Savior Set, and your mods, are chosen to keep you alive long enough to dash in and bring the chaos up close, and boosting its crit rate to capitalize on the katana's crit potential. And just to mix it up, you’ve got Bull’s Eye weapons to soften up targets from a distance before closing in for the kill! Wake up, Samurai. We’ve got Deviants to bur---err, slice!

The DBSG - Doombringer shotgun may not be the centerpiece here, but it’s a solid support for your Fabled Masamune. With a 30% chance to trigger Bull’s Eye — up to 80% within 5 meters — you can mark enemies with little effort, setting them up for your lethal melee strikes. It’s all about staying close to the action.
Plus, each marked takedown grants Attack +6 for 60 seconds, stacking up to five times. Paired with a +30% Crit Rate on marked enemies and 5% DMG Reduction after triggering Bull’s Eye, the Doombringer keeps you powerful and protected, making it the ideal backup for your melee mayhem.
DBSG - Doombringer How to Get and Location
The Recurve Crossbow is the perfect sidekick for your Fabled Masamune Build as it boosts your crit game while also making use of Bull's Eye. Nail a weak spot, and Bull’s Eye kicks in, handing you a juicy +15% Crit Rate for 10 seconds—just what you need to unleash Masamune’s insane crit damage. And with enemies suffering from +8% Vulnerability, they’re practically begging to be sliced and diced.
Since the DBSG - Doombringer shines at close range, the Recurve Crossbow steps in as your long-range alternative.
Recurve Crossbow: How to Get and Location
The Fabled Masamune is the soul of this build, its very core—sharp, swift, and deadly. This katana rewards precision and timing. With Crit DMG scaling up to +120% as long as durability stays high, you’re slicing through foes with style. Drop below 20%, though, and you’ll pay the price with reduced attack power, so don't forget to repair it every time you get back to your base.
The real magic of this katana, though? A quick-draw strike gives you +30% Attack and a guaranteed crit every 15 seconds, keeping you in control. Hit your target, and the bonus sticks around for 5 seconds, letting you stay on the offensive before it fades away. The Masamune isn't just a weapon—it's a way of life.
The blueprint can now be acquired via the Wish Machine by playing the mini-games or buying it with 8,000 Starchrom from the Blueprint Shop. We recommend crafting the Tier V version as soon as you can.

The Savior Set is a perfect fit for the Fabled Masamune Build, keeping you alive and dangerous as you dive into the fray. The -20% Medicine Cooldown ensures you stay healed and ready, while the +10% Weapon and Status DMG boost when your HP is above 70% cranks up your already devastating katana strikes.
Things get spicy when your health dips, though. Drop below 30%, and the set automatically pops an Activator to keep you in the fight. After using one, you get +20% Movement Speed, +20% All DMG, a 2-second cloak for dodging attacks, and 20% DMG Reduction on your torso and limbs. Basically, the Savior Set makes sure you survive long enough to turn every encounter into a quick-draw slaughter!
You can purchase the blueprint for each piece of the Savior Set at the Blueprints Shop by interacting with the Wish Machine for 3,000 Starchrom apiece. Grab 4 pieces of them (like the hood, mask, gloves, and shoes) to complete the sweet set effects!
Equip two pieces from the Blast Set and watch your melee game skyrocket! With a +20% Heavy Melee DMG boost, your katana will cleave through enemies like butter, turning them into instant sushi.
Plus, enjoy a +12% Torso DMG Reduction to keep you standing strong when the battle heats up.
This combo is a situational, budget-friendly option, as blueprint fragments of the Blast Set are easily found in mystical crates instead of draining your Starchrom stash. It's perfect for Silo runs or clearing out zones, delivering solid damage and defense. However, keep in mind this setup isn’t the best for boss fights or PvP, as it relies on killing enemies for the Blast Set's more powerful effects to trigger.

Fateful Strike - Violent | Cannot deal Weakspot DMG. Crit Rate +10% and Crit DMG +30%. |

The Lifeforce Boost mod cranks your HP up by 12%, giving you the grit to stay in the fight longer.

Lifeforce Boost - Violent (Blue) | HP +8.0% |

Healing Fortification | When using a healing shot, DMG Reduction +40% for 2s. |

Safe Haven | When out of combat, gain 1 stack of Safe Haven for 5s, stacking up to 5 times. For every 5 damage received, remove 1 stack of Safe Haven to gain an 8% Shield for 3s. |
These mods offer players versatility by allowing them to pick what suits their playstyle best. Healing Fortification teams up beautifully with the Savior Set, giving a hefty damage reduction when healing, while Resist Advantage and Safe Haven provide excellent defensive buffs for staying alive when the action gets heated.
Mod | Effect Description |

Melee Momentum | Melee DMG by +20%. After a melee kill, recover 30% of max Stamina. |
Melee Momentum is another non-negotiable powerhouse for the build, boosting your melee damage by a solid +20% and giving you a tasty stamina boost after every kill. That flat damage increase alone makes it a must-have.
The Zeno-Purifier is your go-to buddy for all things melee, basically the hype man for your Fabled Masamune build!! Not only does it teleport right into the fray, slicing through foes with its trusty katana—think of it as your very own teleporting samurai—but it also grants you Blink Strike, which lets you zip around the battlefield like the Zeno-Purifier when attacking with a melee weapon.
Both of you will be artfully slicing your enemies into a finely chopped sashimi platter!

Melee Enhancement | Rapid Aid | Tactical Combo |
Bounty Hunter | Sprint | Agility |
Melee Enhancement is a no-brainer for this build! With a 20% DMG boost while swinging your Fabled Masamune, and a quick stamina recovery after each takedown duel, you'll be dancing through foes like a scythe through a field of wheat.
Rapid Aid cuts down your healing medicine cooldown by a snappy 30% and boosts your healing effects by 15%, making it the perfect partner in crime for the Savior Set!
Tactical Combo gives you a sweet 25% Weapon DMG boost for 4 seconds after switching weapons or reloading! Perfect for softening up foes with your ranged gear before swooping in for a melee smackdown
After marking a unit, you’ll unleash a hefty 25% Weapon DMG boost for 15 seconds when you go in for the melee finish!
Sprint gives you a 5% speed boost and cuts your running stamina cost by 15%! This is a melee build. Gotta go fast!
Agility gives you a sweet 15% reduction in weapon and status damage for 4 seconds after rolling!

In case you can't decide if you want to play this build, after trying it, I can say it is really fun to play UNTIL you encounter A: Bosses, B: Enemies with a riot shield (like those you often encounter in Vulture bases) or C: Anything that flies. In those cases you need to rely on your other weapons, which will deal very little damage because your build doesn't really buff them. All in all, I can only recommend you to play this build if you are playing in a group with people using a ranged build

The melee build brings to mind the old adage, "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight." Once Human is all about guns. Can you do melee? Sure. I have a group I play with regularly and one of them is devoted to their sword. They score lowest in every fight. They lock the boss in one spot instead of allowing the team to pull the boss to where the terrain is better for us. This build relies on the shotgun and/or crossbow so it is not, in fact, a melee build.
