Differences Between PvP and PvE

List of Differences in Once Human PvP and PvE

Biggest Difference is Player Combat

Choose a Multiplayer Server in Once Human

In Once Human, players can choose between Player versus Enemy (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP) servers. While the mechanics for both servers are similar, a key difference is how player combat is handled in either server.

In a PvE server, player combat is disallowed by default, and only turns on in specific PvP scenarios or when activating the Chaos State. These include in-game events and mechanics, such as the Cargo Scramble PvP event.

However, in a PvP server, player combat and the Chaos State are turned on automatically after Level 10, meaning that you will contend with both Deviants and other players for survival in the server's worlds.

Difference in Territory Purification

Once Human - Territory Purification

Territory Purification involves placing Echo Stones into the Stardust Resonant Filter in order to obtain Starchroms. Deviants will spawn and attack the filter over the duration of the process, so players need to protect it.

In a PvE Server, these Echo Stones are obtained from clearing dungeons, and synthesizing higher-tier Stones. In a PvP Server, however, there are special Echo Stone Events that will drop Chaotic Cortex items.

How to Get and Use Starchrom

Chaotic Cortex Affects the Player's Territory

When placed in the Stardust Resonant Filter, the Chaotic Cortex will cause the players entire territory to enter a Chaotic State. Other Meta-Humans can attack the territory in an attempt to loot the rewards themselves.

Season Scenario Mechanic Differences

Once Human - Manibus Scenario

The mechanics between PvE and PvP servers can also change as the Season Scenario rotates. For example, in the Manibus PvE Scenario, players and their Warbands must come together in order to defeat the Manibus rift entity.

However, in the Evolution's Call PvP Scenario, players are tasked with fighting for supremacy against other players by linking up with their Warbands, and taking on opposing ones for rewards such as Frontier ownership, and more.

Should You Play PVE or PVP?

It’s Recommended To Play PVE on the First Playthrough

With all the in-game systems and gameplay mechanics, it is generally recommended to start playing PVE first. Afterwards, the players can make an informed decision to try PVP for their subsequent characters.
