Conditions for Breeding Animals |
---|
|
As of the 1.2 update, players are now able to breed animals in their ranch. Once you meet the conditions listed above, you can begin breeding between a male and female animal.
When breeding starts, animals will consume their breed points in order to breed another animal. Do note that this does not guarantee an animal being bred as this only gives them a chance to breed another animal.
You can unlock the formula to craft the Youngling Hut by unlocking the Breeding Animals memetic. Depending on your server, this might be locked until it reaches a certain phase.
Aside from growing the number of animals in your ranch, the new update introduces a bunch of new animal colors and patterns for newborn animal. You can also get the chance to get rare patterns upon breeding an animal.
Steps for Capturing Animals for a Ranch |
---|
|
To capture an animal for ranching, players first need to craft a Tranquilizer Throwing Needle at a Supplies Workbench. These are necessary for capturing animals and can be equipped to the hotbar for easier access.
The formula for Tranquilizer Throwing Needles is unlocked by activating the Animal Capture node in the Memetics menu, under the Logistics tab.
When aiming at animals that can be captured for ranching, an indicator will appear on their HP bar. Players need to lower the animal's health below this indicator for the Tranquilizer Needles to work on the animal.
Be careful when using powerful weapons to subdue the animal, as it may do too much damage and slay them instead. Use weaker weapons when hunting animals to avoid this issue.
Once the animal's HP has been lowered below the indicator, equip the Tranquilizer Throwing Needle and hit the animal with one. The needle works like a throwable weapon, and so it has travel time on the projectile.
Players may need to get closer or wait for the animal to stop moving to successfully connect with the needle. Tranquilizing an animal will subdue it, allowing players to collect it in the backpack with the F key.
Steps for Ranching Animals |
---|
|
To ranch the animal, players need to keep it in an enclosure with an Animal Trough in the base. A simple way to do this is to construct a square enclosure using Foundation and Parapets, to keep the animal contained.
The Animal Trough blueprint is obtained from unlocking the Animal Taming node under the Logistics tab in Memetics.
Players can place captured animals in the enclosure by opening their Backpack and using the corresponding Animal item. This will allow them to place the animal in an area, similarly to placing structures and facilities.
Aggressive animals, like boars or wolves, will be targeted by defensive structures like turrets. If ranching these animals, be sure to either de-power defensive facilities, or have their enclosures out of the firing range.
Note that aggressive animals can also still damage the player and their structures in base, even through thin structures, so it is important to space ranch animals appropriately, and to keep an eye on them before they are tame.
All ranch animals have a Tameness value that starts at zero, and is raised by feeding the animal with the Animal Trough. Players can put food and drinks in the Animal Trough by interacting with it using F.
Raising Tameness will unlock more abilities from the animal, so players need to ensure that the animal's Energy and Hydration remain full. Low Energy and Hydration will hurt the animal, so be ready to feed them after placing one.
Different ranch animals will have different food preferences that players will need to take into account. Providing the correct food is necessary to get the animal to eat.
Attention! | This page is being updated as more tame-able animals are discovered. Stay tuned for more info! |
