Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
191 | 69 | 15.8 |
The Two-Shot Gauss Rifle is one of the best Legendary Weapons in Fallout 4, as it deals twice the damage of a regular Gauss Rifle. Two-shots are considered a more consistent Legendary effect compared to Instigating, since the double damage effect is active all the time.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
110 Physical | 2mm Electromagnetic Cartridge | 66 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
191 | 69 | 15.8 |
The Instigating Gauss Rifle is another great Legendary Weapon, as it can possibly one-shot kill Legendary enemies at full health due to its double damage.
However this effect wears off once you've damaged the enemy, so it's best if you use this weapon in Stealth builds to maximize sneak damage and potentially kill the enemy in a single blast.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
8 Physical | 5 mm Round | 272 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
131 | 35 | 27.4 |
The Explosive Minigun is equipped with bullets that explode on impact, and with the high fire-rate of the minigun, you can consistently cripple the limbs of all enemies that you'll encounter.

---|---|---|---|
33 Physical | .45 Round | 33 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
119 | 70 | 11.1 |
The Overseer's Guardian is the best unique weapon in Fallout 4, as it can deal double the damage due to its two-shot ability, since it fires an extra pojectile after each shot. The .45 ammo used by this weapon is commonly sold from vendors and frequently found through exploration as well.
Since this is classified as a Combat Rifle, you can change the receiver to mod the weapon to Semi-Auto or Full-Auto. This is great if you're not sure about investing in either the Rifleman or Commando perks!

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
110 Physical | 2 mm Electromagnetic Cartridge | 66 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
191 | 69 | 16.8 |
The Last Minute has an amazing damage output once fully charged and the ability to one-shot kill some of the enemies. The only drawback to this weapon is that it takes a while to charge up, leaving you vulnerable for a short amout of time.
This unique Gauss Rifle comes packed with 50-percent more damage to limbs, perfect to use against Behemoths, Deathclaws, and Mirelurk Kings, as long as you have a companion to distract them while you charge this weapon up.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
468 Physical | Mini Nuke | 1 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
117 | 63 | 30.7 |
The Big Boy has the highest damage output out of all weapons, as it can fire two mini-nukes for the cost of one. This also saves you a ton of caps in buying mini-nukes, as well as time in searching for them around the world!

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
25 Physical | 10 mm Round | 66 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
83 | 60 | 3.6 |
The Deliverer is arguably the best pistol to use as it has improved accuracy in V.A.T.S. and costs less AP points to use, making it suitable for V.AT.S. enjoyers. It also comes with a silencer for those who opt to go with a Stealth build.
![]() |
Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
50 Energy | Alien Blaster round | 100 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
119 | 73 | 2.5 |
The Alien Blaster dishes out the best damage for pistols and can kill enemies who are beefed up with a huge amount of health. However, its unique ammo is very limited and you will have to modify it to use Fusion Cells to continue using it, making this a late-game pistol.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
26 Energy | Fusion Cell | 50 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
203 | 76 | 5.5 |
The Righteous Authority is a laser rifle that can carry you out of the early game due to its double Critical Damage and its ability to recharge your Critical Meter fast!
You can obtain this right from the beginning by helping out Paladin Danse at the Cambridge Police Station in the quest, Call to Arms.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
10 Physical | .45 Round | 127 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
107 | 63 | 12.7 |
The Spray n' Pray is a submachine gun that comes with explosive rounds, which you can use to tear off Power Armor of Brotherhood of Steel and Enclave soldiers, making it the best weapon to use against all heavily armored enemies.
![]() |
Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
50 Physical | Shotgun Shell | 20 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
47 | 23 | 11.1 |
The Le Fusil Terribles lets you spam your shots while maintaining accuracy a bit better than a regular shotgun due to its improved recoil unique effect. You can also deal additional damage since it also comes with a slightly higher damage stat when shooting out limbs.
You can modify the receiver to change it to either Semi-Auto or Full-Auto mode. This is perfect if you're still deciding on whether you want to invest in Rifleman or Commando.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
48 Physical | .44 Round | 6 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
83 | 65 | 4.2 |
Kellogg's Pistol is most likely the first powerful weapon that you can get your hands on in the first act of the game, since it refills your Action Points once you've attained a successful Critcal Hit on an enemy, allowing you to spam V.A.T.S. mode constantly.

Damage | Ammo | Fire Rate |
---|---|---|---|
20 Energy | Cryo Cell | 90 | |
Range | Accuracy | Weight | |
71 | 66 | 13.2 |
The Cryolator allows you to freeze your enemies and render them immobile, which can save your life on multiple occasions if you find yourself on the brink of death during a fight.
What makes this low on our best weapons list is the fact that you need a very high lockpick skill level to unlock it from the case in Vault 111.
Rifles | Rifles are typically what you'd use as your main gun, due to the higher fire rate, larger magazine size, and better range and accuracy, compared to pistols and shotguns. |
---|---|
Pistols | Pistols are handguns you'd normally use as a secondary sidearm to complement the primary gun. They're lighter and faster to equip, making them good in a pinch. |
Shotguns | Shotguns are for close-quarters fights, where enemies are grouped together. They pack a punch, despite their low fire rate and range, as well as slow reload speed. |
Heavy Weapons | Heavy weapons are normally two-handers that have a slow build or reload speed, like miniguns and launchers. They're incredibly powerful, but best used against bosses or solo, tanky opponents. |
Melee Weapons | Melee Weapons are objects you wield against enemies. In Fallout 4, you'll encounter blades and blunt objects that can be used as melee weapons. |
Unarmed Weapons | Separate from Melee Weapons, Unarmed Weapons are weapons you equip on your fists to deal stronger punching damage, such as boxing gloves and brass knuckles. |
Explosives | Explosives in Fallout 4 come in the form of grenades, planted mines, and non-lethal throwables like gas grenades and EM pulse 'nades. |
Ballistic / Physical | Ballistic or Physical Damage comes from weapons that only use standard bullets, melee weapons, and regular explosives. It is effective against most organic enemies. |
---|---|
Energy | Energy Damage is mostly effective against mechanical units. Some weapons or items that can inflict Energy Damage can also be used against organic enemies, but with reduced effect. |
Radiation | Radiation Damage reduces the target's health by a certain percentage for each hit. It can still kill enemies as the built-up health reduction can stack and put their health to 0. It is effective against human enemies only and can heal Ghouls instead of damaging them. |

You can increase the damage output of weapons by leveling up certain Perks. Note that a weapon is not inherently automatic or non-automatic, as a good amount of the weapons can be converted from automatic to non-automatic, and vice versa, via Weapon Mods.
