Progress Institutionalized

After gaining access to the Institute by progressing through the main quest Institutionalized, head to the Advanced Systems Department to locate Dr. Madison Li. From the entrance of the department, open the first door on the right to see her office.

Convince Dr. Li to Return to the Brotherhood

Next, convince Dr. Li to return to the Brotherhood of Steel by successfully passing a couple of hard persuasion checks. If you've managed to convince her, you can skip to Step 7 and report immediately to Elder Maxson about her return.

Make sure to have high Charisma perks to convince her successfully. Otherwise, proceed to the next step if you failed.

Find the Evidence in the FEV Lab

To further convince Dr. Li, head to the FEV lab in the Bioscience Department. The path ahead is linear, but most of the doors you'll encounter will either need hacking or bobby pins to open. Make sure to level up your Hacker perks and bring a lot of bobby pins before proceeding.

Defeat the Assaultron

Defeat the Assaultron you encounter along the way before proceeding further. Given its tendency to charge up to you and deal heavy damage up close, it's much more recommended to defeat it than to try to outrun it to the next room. You can do this by targeting its legs, causing it to slow down and providing an opportunity to hit it multiple times with any ranged weapons.

Locate the Terminal in the Lab

Continue down the path until you reach another locked door. Use the terminal next to it to hack and gain access to the FEV lab.

Bring the Evidence to Dr. Li

When you arrive at the FEV Lab, look for the terminal with a holotape beside it. Pick this up and return to the Advanced Systems Department to give it to Dr. Li. Wait for her to finish listening before heading back to Prydwen to report her decision to return.

Report Back to Elder Maxson

End the quest by returning to Prydwen and reporting back to Elder Maxson about Dr. Li's decision to return to the Brotherhood. If she's dead or no longer accessible, you can skip to this part as well to end the quest.
