After progressing the When Freedom Calls Minutemen Quest, Mama Murphy will tell you to go to Diamond City where you can search clues about the whereabouts of your son, Shaun.
Follow the quest marker towards Diamond City until you encounter Piper who is trying to get into Diamond City. Speak to her to get into the city.

Once inside, talk to Mayor McDonough where he will tell you to go to Nick Valentine's Detective Agency after telling him about your circumstances, if you successfully persuade him on his speech check.
Even if you fail the speech check, you can still investigate the Diamond City Market where you can ask information about your next move from one of the following people:
After asking the people of Diamond City Market, they will tell you of Nick Valentine's Detective Agency which is located on a back alley. Just follow the quest marker to get to the agency.
Talk to Ellie Perkins where she will tell you that Nick Valentine is missing ever since taking a new case. Offer your help on finding him to finish this quest and start the next one.
