Inside Job Walkthrough
Inside Job Objectives
- Step on the Reflector Platform
- Load the Network Scanner

Step on the Reflector Platform
After Virgil gives you the schematics for the Signal Interceptor in the Molecular Level Main Quest of Act 2, make sure to approach the Minutemen and ask Sturges to help you build it. During testing, Sturges will give you the quest just before you teleport to the Institute.
Load the Network Scanner
Exit the circular room and access the computer terminal just across from where you are. Load the Network Scanner Holotape and wait for it to finish scanning.
Eject the Network Scanner
After loading the Network Scanner, be sure to eject the Holotape before proceeding to the next step. Otherwise, you won't be able to finish the quest, as you need to give it to Sturges afterward.
Complete Institutionalized
Next, you need to exit the Institute, and you can only do this by completing Institutionalized. There are two ways to complete the quest: Join the Institute or refuse their offer.
Do note that if you have not completed the Road to Freedom faction quest, starting Institutionalized will immediately fail the quest, locking you out from the entirety of the Railroad faction.
Join the Institute (Option A)
Join the Institute and follow the intended path by speaking to all the department heads after talking to The Father. Your Pip-Boy will eventually get upgraded here, allowing you to enter and exit the Institute anytime by fast traveling.
Refuse to Join the Institute (Option B)
The other method involves killing The Father as soon as he enters the room. However, choosing this option will permanently lock you out from joining the Institute. Only consider this approach if you have no plans to join the Institute
Give the Holotape to Sturges
After exiting the Institute, complete the quest by giving the Holotape to Sturges. If you completed the Institutionalized faction quest as intended, you can exit by using your own Pip-Boy. If you killed the Father, you can exit by simply returning to the Circular Room where you teleported from.
