MacCready has a bit of a criminal mindset, so stealing and picking locks will raise your Affinity with him. Despite being a ruthless mercenary, he generally hates it when you get too violent and kill NPCs who are unprovoked.

Where to Find MacCready

1. Go to the Third Rail in Goodneighbor
2. Pay MacCready 250 Caps

MacCready can be found in a lounge room of the Third Rail bar in Goodneighbor. This settlement is located northeast of Boston Common.

Upon entering Goodneighbor, go through the alleway beside the gun store and you should come across a building with the Third Rail signage outside of it. Head inside and go to the red room beside the bartender and you'll find MacCready being confronted by two armed men.

Pay MacCready 250 Caps (or 200 Through Persuasion)

To recruit MacCready as a companion, tell him you are interested in hiring his services and then pay him 250 Caps. Alternatively, you can pass a speech check to lower the amount to 200 Caps instead.

How to Romance MacCready

Romance After Long Road Ahead Quest

You can romance with MacCready after completing his personal quest, Long Road Ahead. At some point, he will talk to you and give his thanks for helping him get a cure for Duncan. You can then attempt to Romance him through a speech check.

MacCready Companion Perk

Killshot

MacCready's companion perk is Killshot, which improves your headshot accuracy in V.A.T.S. by 20 percent.
