The Battle of Bunker Hill Walkthrough

The Battle of Bunker Hill Objectives

  1. Talk to Father
  2. Meet X4-18 in the Bunker Hill
  3. Enter the Bunker Hill through the Back Gate
  4. Proceed to the Utility Basement
  5. Decide the Fate of the Synths
  6. Meet Father at the C.I.T Ruins

Talk to Father

Head back to Father's quarters to learn more about your next assignment. Similar to your previous task, you'll be asked to retrieve more Synths at Bunker Hill. However, this time, the Brotherhood of Steel and the Railroad will interfere with the Institute's plans.

Inform the Brotherhood of Steel and the Railroad (Optional)

You can also inform both the Brotherhood of Steel and the Railroad, given if you completed Shadow of Steel and Tradecraft, respectively. You'll receive new hidden objectives, such as killing the Synths if you decide to inform the Brotherhood or setting them free if you choose to inform the Railroad.

Regardless of whether you choose to inform them or not, both factions will be present later on. Both faction leaders will simply tell you that they're unaware of the ambush if you don't inform them.

Meet X4-18 in Bunker Hill

Head to Bunker Hill settlement and meet X4-18 in an alleyway near the destination. After speaking to him, the battle between all three factions present will commence.

If you're aligned with all three factions, you can proceed without engaging in battle. However, if one or both of the factions have marked you as their enemy before this quest, you'll face their hostilities as well.

Enter Bunker Hill through the Back Gate

Make your way to the back gate of Bunker Hill and enter the settlement from there. Locate the counter on the right. Behind it, you'll find a hatch leading to the Utility Basement.

Proceed to the Utility Basement

Enter the Utility Basement and proceed to the main hall. Head to the far right and follow the long path ahead. At the end of this path, you'll find a room where all the Synths are hiding.

Decide the Fate of the Synths

Once you've met all the synths, you'll need to make a decision about their fate. You can either reset them using the recall code, kill them, or set them free. If you're planning to do the quest as intended, simply use the recall code on each of them. X4-18 will handle their return to the Institute after.

However, opting to kill or release them means you'll have to kill X4-18 to proceed. The Father will confront you about your choices later on, and selecting the wrong prompts could result in your banishment.

Meet Father at the C.I.T Ruins

Once you've dealt with the Synths, meet Father on the rooftop of the C.I.T Ruins. If you've recalled all the target Synths back, he'll commend you for doing a great job and reward you with 500 bottle caps.

However, if you've killed or set them free, you'll need to either apologize, admit to being at fault, or blame the ambush to remain on good terms with the Institute. Defending your actions will result in your banishment.
