Assigning workers is essential to settlement production and development in Fallout 4 (FO4). This guide will tell you how to manage settlers, unassign, and assign workers to jobs!

Open the Workshop and Approach a Settler
Press the Command Button on the Settler
Go to the Workstation and Press Assign
Settler Should Now Be Assigned to the Job

1. Open the Workshop Menu and Approach a Settler

To assign a worker, open the Workshop Menu first and approach any settler in your settlement.

2. Press the Command Button While Looking at the Settler

While looking at the settler and having them selected, press the Command button (Enter/X/A).

3. Go to the Specific Workstation and Press the Assign Button

Go to the object or workstation you want to assign them to and press the Assign button which should be the same button (Enter/X/A).

4. Settler Should Now Be Assigned to the Job

The settler will now automatically go to work the job by themselves. The same process can be done to reassign settlers to another job.

Open the Workshop and Approach the Settler
Command the Settler to Go Somewhere Else
Go Back to the Workstation and Store the Object
Settler Should Now Be Unassigned

1. Open the Workshop Menu and Approach the Settler

To unassign a worker, open the Workshop Menu again and approach a working settler in the settlement.

2. Command the Settler to Go Somewhere Else

If the settler is manning their workstation, order them to leave by pressing the Command button and directing them to go to a different spot by pressing the same button again on the ground.

3. Go Back to the Workstation and Store the Object

Head back to the station the worker was assigned to and store the object in the workshop. You may also scrap the workstation if you want to.

4. Settler Should Now Be Unassigned

After storing or scrapping the station, the settler will now go back to being unassigned.
