Candy Boost is a feature only available during certain events that allows you to double the EXP gains from Candy in exchange for more Dream Shards. Read on for more information about the Candy Boost function, the best Pokemon to use it on, the events they can be used in, and instructions on how to turn on this feature.
List of Contents
When activated, Candy Boost allows you to get double EXP from Pokemon Candy when using them to level up Pokemon. In return, you pay at least six times more Dream Shards than usual.
Take note that if you're using a large amount of Candy at once, you may notice the Dream Shards required being a little over six times. This is because the number of Dream Shards required per level differ, and the computation for Candy-Boosted Dream Shards per level may have been adjusted.
- EXP Nature | Neutral Nature | + EXP Nature | |
---|---|---|---|
Normal Rate | 21 | 25 | 30 |
Candy Boost | 42 | 50 | 60 |
The amount of EXP a Pokemon gains from Candy will depend on its Nature. Natures that have increased EXP gains should be incredibly easy to level up with the Candy Boost feature. Though you may prefer to level up your Pokemon with Natures that reduce EXP gains using this feature, since this is the best opportunity for them to gain levels.
Candy Boost Function | Dream Shards Used | EXP Gained from Candy | Limit |
---|---|---|---|
Regular | x6 | x2 | N/A |
Mini | x4 | x2 | 50 Candies per day |
A more limited form of the Candy Boost function called the Mini Candy Boost may be implemented in an event instead.
The Mini Candy Boost function still doubles EXP gains from Candy while using only 4 times more Dream Shards (compared to the regular Candy Boost's 6), but you can only use up to 50 Candies per day. This makes the feature more accessible to newer players with less Dream Shards while preventing players with more Dream Shards from overleveling their Pokemon.
Choose a Pokemon from your Box that you want to level up, then tap on the Level Up button. If there is currently an event that allows the Candy Boost feature, you should find it on the upper right corner of the level up screen. Tap on it to activate it.
You'll know that the Candy Boost bonus is active if it has a check mark on its button and if the Give button shows "Candy Boost" on top of it.
In the next screen, you will be shown the original Dream Shard cost and the Candy Boost Dream Shard cost. The new amount should be about six times the original or more, so make sure that you're okay with the amount shown before you give your Pokemon their Candy.

Best Pokemon to Use Candy Boost |
---|
|
Some of the best Pokemon to boost are the Pokemon that have become staples of your Helper Teams. These are the Pokemon you can't ever see yourself replacing.
As long as you haven't reached the level cap yet (currently set at level 50), your Pokemon can only get better with higher levels. Try not to use up all your Dream Shards though.
Ingredients Unlocked Only at Lv. 30/60 | |||
---|---|---|---|
Slowpoke Tail | Large Leek | Tasty Mushroom | Soft Potato |
The Slowpoke Tail, Large Leek, Tasty Mushroom, and Soft Potato ingredients are only available at levels 30 and 60 for certain Pokemon.
Since these ingredients can only be unlocked at these high levels, it's a good idea to prioritize leveling up Pokemon that gather any of these items such as Bellsprout, Gastly, Mime Jr., and Ditto.
Best Ingredients and Helper Pokemon For Dishes
If you have a Pokemon with valuable gold or blue Sub Skills, you may want to level them up to unlock these skills.
Take note that the current level cap for Pokemon is level 50 despite there being skills for levels 75 and 100. The level cap will likely be removed at some point in the future, but right now, you may only want to consider the level 10, level 25, and level 50 Sub Skills of your Pokemon.

Larvitar Line | ||
---|---|---|
Larvitar | Pupitar | Tyranitar |
Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar have increased EXP requirements per level at 1.5x the normal amount. This may be because they are considered a Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon line.
They are good candidates for the Candy Boost feature because of this if you wanted to level one of them up.
Events Using Mini Candy Boost | ||
---|---|---|
Electric Type Week | Fire Type Week | First Aniversary Fest |
The Mini Candy Boost feature has made an appearance in each of the Type Week events as well as week 2 of the First Anniversary Fest. This is the type of Candy Boost function that appears most frequently in events.
The Candy Boost feature was first introduced during the Holiday 2023 Double Dream Shard Research Event from December 18 to 24. It's a very appropriate feature for an event centered around Dream Shards.
Pokemon Sleep Christmas Holiday Event
This feature was mentioned to be possible for future events. It's not likely to appear in all events, such as the Good Sleep Day event, but it may make a comeback for events that have a focus on Dream Shards, Candies, EXP, or leveling up.
This seems very suitable for next year's Halloween Event, for example, since that is a Candy-centric type of event.
The current EXP bonus and Dream Shard cost of the Candy Boost is not guaranteed to be the same for all events, however.
Since the EXP boost is so significant, in line with bonuses from events, Candy Boost is unlikely to be a permanent feature. Pokemon Sleep has also only mentioned it as being a limited-time event feature.
