There are a total of four Sleep Types, with the last one being more of a hidden one. Each of these Sleep Types attract different Pokemon, and the number of Pokemon encountered at the end of a Sleep Session depends on your Snorlax's Drowsy Power.
The Sleep Types in Pokemon Sleep are namely Dozing, Snoozing, Slumbering, and Balanced.

The Dozing Sleep Type involves a lot of movement and sound when you sleep, with very frequent tossing and turning as well as sounds like grunts, groans, snoring, and sometimes sleep-talking.
This may come naturally to people who generally have a hard time falling asleep or getting good quality sleep, such as those who are often overly-caffeinated.

The Pokemon that respond to the Dozing Sleep Type the most are Grass, Poison, Bug and Fighting Types. If you are looking to get any Pokemon under these types, it might be best to prepare beforehand, as the Dozing Sleep Type doesn't come as easy.
Players can get the Dozing Sleep Type by simulating as much movement and sound as possible. One way of doing this is by placing your device on your lap while you work or study, provided that it can capture ample activity.
Singing and talking will also help in getting this Sleep Type as they simulate sound for the app to record.
Since the Dozing Sleep Type is potentially the hardest one to get as it involves a lot of activity, it is recommended that players try to acquire it during their 90-Minute First Sleep Session, where players can acquire this without sleeping

The Snoozing Sleep Type is a little like the Dozing Type, but only requires a sizeable amount of movement and noise, making it a little easier and more realistic to acquire. Wakes are still a factor, but not as much as that of the Dozing Type.
This comparatively comes more naturally to more people regardless of lifestyle choice.

Fire-type Pokemon and Electric-type Pokemon such as Charmander and Pikachu, respectively, as well as Normal-type Pokemon respond to the Snoozing Sleep Type the most. Should you want a Pokemon under these types, be sure to get this Sleep Type!
Much like the Dozing Sleep Type, simulating movement and sound is imperative when it comes to acquiring the Snoozing Sleep Type while awake.
Placing it on your lap could still work, provided that you don't move excessively. We found that it works better if you place the device on your chair beside you, where comparatively less movement and noise can be captured.
The Snoozing Sleep Type is a fairly realistic sleeping pattern one can adapt. Hence, it is a recommended Sleep Type to do on any occasion, may it be your First Sleep Session or your Regular Sleep Session. Most of the time, you will get this Sleep Type through the latter.

Balanced Sleep Type |
The Slumbering Sleep Type is considered by many as the most peaceful Sleep Type one can get, with little to no movement or sound being made throughout your Sleep Session.
While this may seem like the most ideal Sleep Type in the game, it is not necessarily the easiest to attain naturally, considering that most people tend to react to reflexes naturally even when asleep. Ironically, it would be easier to attain this one while awake.

Baby Pokemon |
Baby Pokemon such as Pichu as well as Water and Ground-type Pokemon tend to respond most to the Slumbering Sleep Type. If you have a Pokemon in mind that falls under these categories, it would be in your best interest to try and get this Sleep Type.
Attaining the Slumbering Sleep Type can be achieved by leaving your phone completely undisturbed face-down on a soft surface, preferrably in an entirely different room. Ensure that the room can also remain silent for a long while.
The same tactic also applies during your Regular Sleep Session.
While this can be done during your Regular Sleep Session, it may be difficult for you to achieve this Sleep Type naturally. No one could really force themselves to lay completely still and silent for 8 hours straight.
Instead, it would be better if you simply left your device in a different room where it will remain unmoving and silent for the entire dutration of your Sleep Session.
Don't leave your device alone for too long, though, or the app may decide that you're not truly asleep. This may mark hours of your Sleep Session as untracked time and reduce your Sleep Score.

Balanced Sleep Type |
The Balanced Sleep Type is by far the most realistic and easiest one to do. It is the "hidden" Sleep Type that is a combination of all three Sleep Types, and it requires a reasonable amount of movement and noise, and minimal to no wakes.
Unlike any other Sleep Type, this one would be perfect for when you want to sleep normally. This is also the Sleep Type you are more likely to get if you sleep the same way consistently for multiple Sleep Sessions in a row.
Since this Sleep Type is the amalgamation of all Sleep Types, all Pokemon regardless of the Sleep Type they fall under will respond to it. Hence, trying to get this Sleep Type is highly recommended for any occasion.
While the Balanced Sleep Type is more suited to Regular Sleep Sessions, is is possible to get it without Sleeping.
Placing your device on your lap or beside you on your chair should still do the trick, provided that you keep the movement and sound at a reasonable amount.
Being the healthiest and most realistic Sleep Type, the Balanced Sleep Type is most recommended for Regular 6-8 Hour Sleep Sessions. You should get this on most mornings, and will pay off handsomely in terms of encountering Pokemon!
Taking the fact that all Pokemon respond to this Sleep Type into account, ensuring that Snorlax has significant Strength and sleeping for 6-8 hours will net you the most number of Pokemon possible, all in a single night.
How to Get the Balanced Sleep Type Pattern
A Sleep Type can be acquired by movements and sound recorded throughout your sleep as well as the number of times you woke up. Based on this data, Pokemon Sleep determines the kind of sleep you got.
Pokemon Sleep allows for two Sleep Sessions to be recorded in a single day, each at a minimum of 90 minutes. It is recommended that players get two different Sleep Types in one day to maximize the number of Pokemon they can acquire.
Your First Sleep Session usually lasts at just about 90 minutes and can be acquired in the middle of the day, even without sleeping. Your Regular Sleep Session is your 6-8 hour sleep, which can be done overnight.
In order to get each and every Sleep Type, players can make necessary adjustments to help them adjust according to their desired Sleep Type. This involves real-live activities such as lowering your room temperature or taking warm baths before bed.
However, do be careful not to force yourself to meet Sleep Type conditions as this may lead to health repercussions. Try and get as much rest as you can, and pay attention to safety first and foremost.
Players can acquire all four Sleep Types without actually sleeping. All you have to do is simulate movement, sound, and wakes enough while the app is tracking your "sleep".
Just be sure to lay your device face-down, preferrably on a soft surface like a bed, sofa, or cushion.
How to Play Pokemon Sleep Without Sleeping
After your Sleep Session ends and you've encountered Pokemon that responds to the Sleep Type you acquired, you can befriend them by feeding them Biscuits. Once their Friendship meter maxes out, you can recuit them as a helper!
