Pokemon Sleep Review
Pokemon Sleep is a fun Pokemon game, but it's not quite as good as a sleep tracker. Keep reading for our full review of Pokemon Sleep, the Premium Pass, and the Pokemon GO Plus+.

What is Pokemon Sleep?

A Spin-Off Sleep Tracker

Pokemon Sleep Logo

Pokemon Sleep is both a Pokemon spin-off game and a sleep tracker. Pokemon Sleep encourages players to sleep and develop healthy sleeping habits while researching Pokemon.

The goal is to find and research as many Sleep Styles as possible. You can research Sleep Styles after every Sleep Session, and recruit some of the Pokemon you research using Biscuits.

Not a Good Sleep Tracker

Sleep Tracker Score

Not Good

Despite its main feature as a sleep tracker, Pokemon Sleep is actually not that good at accurately tracking sleep.

The game can easily be convinced that you are sleeping, even if you haven't fallen asleep yet. Any disturbance, even if you are not the cause, may be detected by the app and inaccurately recorded onto your sleep data. You can even use Pokemon Sleep without sleeping.

In a quiet, completely peaceful environment with a bed that is neither too soft nor too hard, you may be able to get accurate results. However, this is not how many people's sleeping arrangements are.

It must also be noted that needing to have your phone plugged in and charging on your bed overnight to track your sleep may pose a safety hazard.

A Fun Pokemon Game

Fun!

Despite not being a very effective sleep tracker, Pokemon Sleep still makes tracking your sleep fun. It feels very rewarding to raise your Snorlax with your Pokemon. Everything feels even better if you get a good night's sleep.

Pokemon collecting is as fun as ever with the ability to collect different Sleep Styles as well as collect Pokemon by befriending them. The Pokemon are cute whether asleep in various Sleep Styles or awake gathering Berries. When they start feeling tired from their activities, you feel encouraged to sleep to get their energy levels back up.

Pokemon Sleep is a relaxing, low maintenance game that doesn't require much from your waking hours, and it's good at motivating you to go to sleep by using the fun of Pokemon.

Pokemon Sleep With the Pokemon GO Plus+

Great Device for Pokemon Sleep

Pokemon GO Plus+ Score
Pokemon Sleep - Great Biscuit 7/10
Great

The Pokemon GO Plus+, while also compatible with Pokemon GO, feels especially designed for Pokemon Sleep. It's easy to connect to the game and use. Night Cap Pikachu is also a fun companion to have.

If you get tired of hearing Pikachu's voice or the flashing lights on your Pokemon GO Plus+ device, silent mode works completely with Pokemon Sleep.

Pokemon GO players can get more Berries in Pokemon Sleep by using their Pokemon GO Plus+ for both apps, so using the device can also net you some useful rewards.

The Pokemon GO Plus+ is a perfect alternative to your phone if you don't want to leave it charging beside you all night. Unfortunately, it's not a cheap accessory. Many people may not find it worth the investment if you'll only be using it for Pokemon Sleep.

Some people have also reported that their Pokemon GO Plus+ device is not connecting or is not working with their Pokemon Sleep app. Since connecting to the app is a very important step in using the Pokemon GO Plus+, it is likely that these issues will be addressed in future updates of the app.

If you have the budget for a Pokemon GO Plus+ and want to consistently track your sleep with the Pokemon Sleep app, the Pokemon GO Plus+ is a good investment.

Pokemon GO Plus+ Guide and Tips

How is Pokemon Sleep as a Free App?

Complete Experience for No Charge

Free Features Score
Pokemon Sleep - Master Biscuit 8/10
Excellent

Pretty much all of the features you want are available without having to pay a single cent. Though it is unfortunate that the Sleep Diary feature is not included, it's easy enough to write your sleep notes in a notebook or another app. Since the sleep tracking isn't all that accurate anyway, it may not be advisable to use Pokemon Sleep for a deep analysis of your sleep patterns.

It doesn't feel like you're missing out on much if you don't spend any money. You'll have to work harder and use the app more consistently if you want to get access to more items, but nothing truly important to the gameplay experience is locked behind a paywall.

A lot of the game mechanics and features are actually locked behind progression. This may feel strange and unnecessary for a sleep tracking app, but it does somewhat help to keep you coming back for more.

Not Really Worth the Price

Too Expensive

  • Bonus Pokemon appear during Sleep Research
  • Manual input of sleep data gives normal rewards

Premium Pass Price

1-Month Plan $9.99 USD
6-Month Plan $49.99 USD

Premium Pass Review

The bonuses you get with the Premium Pass are certainly useful especially if you want to befriend as many Pokemon as possible in the least amount of time. It can also be very useful to Shiny hunters who are looking for those rare-colored Pokemon. However, despite all these gifts and bonuses, the Premium Pass seems very expensive.

It seems like the Premium Pass works better as a long-term subscription, since you get monthly gifts and rewards every three months. Because of this, the 6-Month Plan might be the one to go for.

The value of all the items you get still depend on your consistency in using Pokemon Sleep and how much sleep you get. All those items you get may not mean much if you don't get a high enough Sleep Score to draw in more Pokemon.

Since Pokemon Sleep is not the best sleep tracker, you also may not have much need for the full record of your sleep data and the Sleep Diary.

The Premium Pass can be helpful in playing Pokemon Sleep, and if you have the money to spare, the 6-Month Plan looks reasonable. But it does not look like a very valuable investment. It might be a better idea to buy Diamonds instead if you're in need of items.

Good

Pokemon Sleep is a fun and relaxing Pokemon game that can truly motivate you to go to sleep. It doesn't require a lot of time to play (at least while awake), and the Pokemon collecting aspect is as good as ever. However, it does not function very well as an accurate sleep tracker.

Right now, in the early days of the app, there doesn't seem to be many features. Although, many other features may also be locked to game progression. If we look at how Pokemon GO grew and included more features over time, it's likely that Pokemon Sleep will do the same as more updates to the game drop.

Despite the limited features of the game at the moment, the free version of Pokemon Sleep feels like a complete experience. It has good long-term playability since there are lots of Sleep Styles and Pokemon to discover. It would just be better if it had compatibility with more hardware other than the Pokemon GO Plus+, such as the Apple Watch, etc.

If you don't want to use Pokemon Sleep to track your sleep, this is not the game for you as there's not much else to do with the app. But if playing while sleeping seems appealing to you, go ahead and try out Pokemon Sleep!
