You should always prioritize Rare PokeMetal during trade. Rare PokeMetal can be used to summon Ho-Oh and Lugia and 3D Print rare items. Although it has a high demand, it is highly recommended that you get it when it is available for trade.

You could also aim for furniture with unique patterns. Furniture with special patterns and styles can be difficult to find or craft, unless you have Vespiquen. If you see a furniture that you like is up for trade, you should consider getting it.
Having at least one copy of an item will allow you to 3D Print it, if you later want more copies.

Players have different berries that grow on their world. If you are playing in single player mode, and are unable to visit other players' islands, you can still get other kinds of berries from trading with Pokemon.
If you spot other items that you're searching for, such as items for requests and habitats, you should consider getting them from trade. For instance, one of the things you can get from trade is Wastepaper, which can be recycled into Paper, which is needed for the Initiation Challenge.

10 Wooden Posts can be made easily with only 2 Lumber. 1 Wooden Post can be traded in for 100 points, so submitting 10 Wooden Posts is worth 1,000 points, making it easy to craft and trade.
You can get the Wooden Post crafting recipe by collecting 80 Pokemon in your Pokedex.

Castform Weather Charms are easy to acquire since you can get one everyday for free at a Dream Island. Simply climb up the building where Drifbloon is stationed and there will be a Castform Weather Doll free for the taking. They go for a high value of 1,500 points when traded.

Dishes can also be used for trade. Even easy to make dishes go for a decent value in trading! For instance, Croutons Salad can be made using Bread and Leaf in a cutting board, but goes for 500 points for trading. If you have a pot, you can also make Healthy Soup, which only needs Water, Leaf, and Beans.

Pokemon with the Litter Specialty such as Mareep can drop items that you can collect and use for crafting. You can use these items as well for trading, especially if you are in excess abundance of them.

If you have building blocks that stack up and clutter your inventory, you can opt to give them away for trade. Although they don't amount to much, it at least clears up space without littering your area.

If a Pokemon has a Trade Specialty, you can get them to set up a trade by placing a Cash Register, powered by Electricity, on a table. They will only set up shop when they have something to trade, so you may need to wait a bit.
If you don't have a Trade Pokemon yet, placing a powered Cash Register on a table will set up a Working The Register habitat, which will attract Pokemon with the Trade Specialty.
Trade Specialty Guide and How to Use

Once you rebuild the Pokemon Center, some Trade Pokemon will use the counter there as a trading spot. Because of the longer table area, they will have more items on display.
How to Rebuild the Pokemon Center

The regular Trade Pokemon will not appear if there is an active event taking place. When there's an event, the Pokemon Center will be hosting the event shop, where featured Pokemon will trade event-exclusive items for a special currency.
