Pokemon Pokopia - How to Have Pokemon Follow You
You can ask a Pokemon to follow you in Pokemon Pokopia if you need it for a task or to move into a home. Read on for all the ways you can ask a Pokemon to follow you, the recommended and maximum number of Pokemon to follow you, and what you can do with them.

How to Have Pokemon Follow You

  1. Talk to the Pokemon
  2. Press Up on the D-Pad

Talk to the Pokemon

You can ask a Pokemon to follow you by talking to them and selecting the "Follow me!" option. They should then automatically start following you.

If they're hungry, the Pokemon won't follow you, so try to give them food if they aren't coming along!

Part ways with following Pokemon

A faster way to ask a Pokemon to follow you is to approach them and press the Up button on your controller. Ditto will react as well as the target Pokemon, then the Pokemon will start to follow you.

If you want Pokemon to stop following you, you can hold the Up button, and you'll part ways.

Bring Gulpin for More Storage Space

The most recommended Pokemon to bring along is Gulpin. It is one of the few Pokemon that has Storage as a specialty, allowing you more storage when you travel around. Gulpin is also more accessible in the early game.

Up to five Pokemon can follow you at a time. If you need to swap out some Pokemon, you can ask Pokemon to stop following you before you ask another Pokemon to start following you.

What to Do with Following Pokemon

Use Pokemon Specialties

Pokemon Specialties and Likes

The main reason you'll probably want a Pokemon to follow you is to make use of their specialties. Each Pokemon has a specific job it can do based on its specialty.

If you lead a Pokemon to an item or location where they can make use of their specialty, they will automatically perform the associated task. For example, if you lead Charmander, which has the Burn specialty, to an unlit campfire, it will ignite it.

Construct Buildings

Pokemon Specialties

Constructing a building using a building kit requires specific Pokemon to be brought to the site. Interact with the box in front of the construction site to see the materials and Pokemon you need.

If the required Pokemon are available on your island, you can ask them to follow you so that you may lead them to the construction site.

How to Build Houses and Structures

Transfer to New Home

3 Furniture Items in a Leaf Den

Pokemon do not need to stay in the habitat you discover them from. You can build houses for them to move into in order for them to be more comfortable.

Once a house is ready, you can ask a Pokemon to follow you to the house. Then, talk to them to ask them to move into their new home. Do note, however, that they won't move to a new home if it has something that they dislike.

How to Move Houses

Transfer to a New Area

You can transfer Pokemon from one area to another by using either Return Home to fast travel or by walking to the nearest gate while the Pokemon is following you.

This is generally done to bring in Pokemon to help with setting up in a new area, to balance out your Pokemon population, or to bring together connected Pokemon species and unique dialogue.

Complete Pokemon Requests

Some Pokemon may request that you bring them to a particular place or do a particular activity. You'll need to ask them to follow you in order to fulfill these types of requests.
